    Damn, I just got pwnt.

(p.s. I'm proud of Matt for doing well these last few weeks, but I still want to see him shred a defense that isn't bottom 25% of the league before I back off)

Fixed. There isn't a person in the world that can give me a good logical reason why an 8 year old should be shooting a real gun. The stupidity is astounding.

Oh cmon, I stand by my right to bear arms because I can't adequately protect my property unless I have a piece that can spray 100 rounds a minute...besides they look so purty...

I just want sensible gun laws if there are additional restrictions to be placed on sales and ownership with the Democratic tidal wave approaching.

Banning pistol grip stocks on rifles? Threaded muzzle?

Put some thought behind these decisions please, with the thought process revolving around what will most effectively take guns out of the hands of criminals and irresponsible owners instead of the perspective of "What do you need that for?" and putting the onus on enthusiasts to justify a particular feature of a weapon.

    million dollar question:

will the parents and witnesses now advocate tighter gun control laws if they did not previously do so?

I don't see where the issue of gun control comes into this article/situation at all.

If anything, this should be the #1 example at a terrible-parenting seminar.

    $999,999 question:

Will the parent(s) be charged with negligent homicide, and if so, what will be the response of the NRA faction if this occurs?

Very sad story. While the parents certainly deserve criticism I think the certified gun intructor deserves a lot of criticism. One would think that someone who is a trained gun instructor should have a good sense of what the recoil is on that type of weapon.

What the heck ever happened to common sense?

You don't let an 8 year old handle an Uzi...as a parent OR instructor.

You don't have UZI's available to shoot in the general public, they are not needed to hunt....

People are so darned caught up in the gun culture, that they have lost all sense of reality.

And crap like this and Columbine and Virginia Tech and others keeps happening.

You don't hear about this in countries like England or Australia or other countries where Guns are harder to come by....at least FAR LESS FREQUENTLY....

COMMON SENSE ...is apparently....uh....not so common.

Yes. I have rented machine guns at On Target gun range in Murphreesboro, TN...I'll be honest, machine guns are not all that. Semi-auto is preferable due to fire control and accuracy...

There is a reason the infamous 1997 Bank of America NorthHollywood shootout produced no civilian casualties despite thousands of rounds fired from machine guns...They go all over the place.

I had used an MP5 machine gun and the only comfortable selective fire rate was 3 round burst in 9mm, and this is someone very comfortable with firearms.

The point is on full auto, I as a 215 pound man had trouble keeping the MP5 from wanting to climb,....any competent instructor would know this.

It's just like handing the keys to your 8 year old and telling them it's safe to take it on I-45 because you are next to them.

I am a bonafide gun enthusiast, but this is criminal.

I know that socialistic societies are more against rights, and you seem inclined to socialism, but it's also rights that allow more freedoms...If we take away rights to save lives, then where does it stop?...If we only were allowed to perform racial/ethnic profiling and scrutiny then 9/11 may not have happened....It goes on and on in the name of "saving lives"

No one needs a car that goes over 65 mph. Stop sales of motorcycles...Nobody needs beer/ cigs....O yes, let's get rid of fast food....We can save lives....

Oh Right RoxRan......guns are about saving lives.....right.....

We have seen the data on all the people KILLED or maimed or injured because of guns....

Let's see your data on people saved because of them?

    Link please....

And I am not in favor of taking away ALL guns, just Uzis and AK47s and other automatic weapons clearly not needed for hunting etc.

    You know...common sense like.

Sure, Uzis suck and automatic AK47's suck almost as bad. Semi-auto. AK47's are fine, and even better are semi-auto AR15's. The AR15 is infact a great sporting and hunting rifle, and made here in the good ole USA....

    You know....a 3 letter word: JOBS...J_O_B_S

The semi-auto. AR15 is also a great defensive firearm as well....OOOOOO.....

LOL - come on for hunting...honestly.....a bit of a stretch.....

In practical terms, hoewver, this death is an anomoly in the extreme. I don't know when the last time someone died from an automatic weapon, but I know nobody has never been murdered by one.

If one person a decade dies from a machine gun accident, and 8000 a decade die from other gun deaths, your primary concern is outlawing automatic weapons? Would you describe that as a logical focus of your efforts?

I am in favor of much tougher gun controls, handguns.....included....much tougher, but not the elimination of them all.

Just more restrictions.....and back ground checks and waiting periods etc.

But when people suffer more deaths anually from chainsaw accidents or snowmobile accidents than legal automatic weapons, you would still make it your priority to outlaw them?
