I can't get the pod cast to work. They messed up and made the hour 2 link direct to hour 3. Which hour was the interview repeated in?
i will allways be a JVG fan. i still doubt his ability to be a head coach at a championship level. i think he's a guy that will get a lotto team to the playoffs, get the young guys straightened out (much like a drill sargent in boot camp), but he's no jackson, brown, sloan, pop, etc...
He also talked about Scola and analyzed his game. Very good analysis. Said he reminds him a lot of Battier. Very skilled offensively. BEst trade of the offseason. Needs to work on pick and roll defense.
Guess who else compares Scola to Battier? Jonathan Feigan at the Chronicle. In fact, now that I think of it, it seems Feigan's opinions on the new Rockets sound very much like Van Gundy's. I'd bet the two of them still talk to each other pretty often.
It's just a general comparison. I thought the same when I saw him play in the World CHampionships and in the olympics a while ago.
a bit off topic but my outlook for the celtics would be whole lot better if they fired doc rivers and hired jvg. they may be good anyways but i think doc is an average coach.
how about no. they would avg 95 pts w/ those 3. JVG does not coach superstars. he is a disciplinarian that is more fit for young teams like the wolves/grizz who would listen to him
They should have just fired Doc and hired Thibodeau. THe Celts have 2 of JVG's ex-assistants, and the Magic have 3.
I bet JVG wishes he could coach this bunch. Maybe, time away would give him time to assess his strengths and weaknesses and make him a better coach later on. Talking to other coaches and watching games maybe would get him to assess how to improve his style on offense and how he handles players.
