Well, let's get to what really matters here...Is Jeff, Clutch, KingCheetah, or tinman going to audition for this thing?
Generally You cannot bring them up down the dial without going through the Radio equivalent of Eye rolling, super sarcasm and basically being called and idiot for the rest of the show The afternoon folx generally *never* think *anything* is racial . . .they generally dogg out anyone that does they generally stick to topics for their 'mainstream' views minority views don't seem to be 'allowed' too too much tolerated to an extent I guess I guess the overflow moves to 790 because. .it is the only place they feel they have a forum [Unless they on KCOH] Rocket River
definitely agree. even charlie will allow you to bring it up even if he totally disagrees. I always love when they say someone is making it harder on people who are really racially oppressed. as if they really care.
Cool. I like Carl Dukes. I think he and Matt/Adam are the most enjoyable, really. Agree on Mike and Mike, too....they go at 100 mph but never really seem to say much. Plus, I find it hard to listen to any radio program that is also broadcast on the television.
I don't care, I wish they wouldn't, but its really the indignation by the hosts that I'm referring to by the hosts. they act like its the worst topic in the history of the world. its the leparcy of sports radio. if they can talk about steroid for 2 years straight they can talk about race, even if the allegations are totally ridiculous.
and that's fine, because sometimes they are. but they are jaded to all race talk unless its overt racism. something like the fuzzy zoelloer situation. some things are ridiculous, like a black caller called in charlie's show and accused drayton of not going all out for tejada because he wasn't white. but some are not, like it or not there is a racial element to modern day sports and the interaction between fans. for instance, when people dismiss the racial aspect to the dress code. I just don't see how some fans want to dismiss it, its obviously there.
I think they just want avoid polarizing issues altogether. Sports talk is basically entertainment talk. They would rather stick to football, beer and boobs.
Actually, I think that's a big part of it. You look at the demographics of sports radio listeners and they are 18-40 year old guys. If they wanted to talk politics, they'd most likely turn to a political talk radio show. Race is a polaraizing issue that, if talked about more than a small amount of the time, would be overkill for most listeners. But, I do TOTALLY agree with pgabriel that too often the idea that race plays a factor is glossed over by some on talk radio and it can be as significant as dumb callers like the one he mentioned calling about Tejada. I'm not sure if that is opinion, desire to keep the topic off something controversial or some other reason. But, they do avoid it like the plague. I'm also with you, pgabriel, on the steroids thing. Is there a more tired issue than steroids in baseball? Good grief.
Carl Dukes is so boring it should be illegal. I can only hope he and the other guy work well together and play off of each other effectively. But IMO, the AM790 morning show will fail miserably and Dukes will get canned. It's just hard listening to him more than 2 minutes in a row.
I heard that the new guy is going to fill in for Dukes next week. Let's flood him with Rockets calls.
Even though he's not a native, he's been the UH basketball color guy for a while, so it's not like he's a brand-new transplant. I hope he succeeds
