Right? Honestly, Lucifer replacing Innes would be a hit.

I'm stunned by this news. This is like the Rockets trading Chandler Parsons the day Dwight Howard signed... Matt and Adam put 790 on the map, in my opinion. This sucks.

I saw Matt and Adam at the Dwight Howard press conference and they killed it with great interviews that day. They have the best interviews of Daryl Morey... night and day difference between their interviews and the ones that Morey did with 610 when the Rockets had their contract with them.

When things happen in sports in Houston, I don't want to hear what Mike and Mike or other national guys have to say ... I want to hear the take of local guys like Matt and Adam -- Houston guys you respect and know from years of listening.

Sorry to hear it... would like to see them return to the airwaves soon.

Agreed. This is why I like Lance, particularly, too. He's invested in Houston sports the same way I am. His perspective, like Matt's and Adam's, is similar to mine. Ultimately they're fans of these teams...and though they all work to be objective, they're actually rooting for the success of the pro sports franchises in this city..

My HOPE is that this ultimately brings us choice. That another station picks up these guys in some form or fashion and relieves themselves and us from the crap they've been subjecting us to otherwise.

Man I do not like clanton... I hope he see this bc I know he reads CF.

All he does is talk **** and make "insert typical pop culture" references. He'll bring lance down. It's just one big circle jerk with him.

I like Wexler, but Matt can be irritating sometimes. I find it difficult to listen to him when he interrupts Adam to hammer in one of his points instead of letting Wexler complete his comment.

I do think they do very well in interviews.

Hmmm..I really like the guy. I find him relateable as a Houston sports fan. More fun loving and not as analytical. I heard him with Lance recently and thought it was really entertaining.

I relate most to Lance. I've been listening to him since day 1 when he started with 610, and he reminds me exactly of the guys I grew up with.

As someone who spends a decent amount of the day driving around a work vehicle that only has a radio, i spent a good chunk of my mornings listening to The Big Show.

It wasn't the best (Matt J could get annoying from time to time) but it sucks to lose them. Was a big fan and have a lot of respect for all the years they have been going at it.

I think Clanton and Lance can be a good combination. I guess if i'm driving around during lunchtime it will be 610 on my dial if i need my sports radio fix (breaks my heart to type that).

I'm with you on Lance - and I want to like Clanton - but he just seems so pissy about his past and is always taking shots at ex co-workers. Just seems very small to me. When he's not making fun of McIlvoy, or flaunting female newscasters, or speaking about baseball (a subject he has zero credibility on) - he can be good. Given that it's the summer - that's all I've heard him do lately.

Wow a reason why I actually started listening to 790 this year was because of Matt and Adam. They are just good hosts and they do a terrific job with interviewing guests. These guys really did put 790 on the map. While Clanton and Lance might be a good pairing... I really hope this decision was one that wasnt taken lightly. Matt and Adam are gonna be picked up soon barring any sort of work place incident. That really could be the only thing that got them off the air. Matt and Adam must have said something to one of the top guys...Wish them the best in their careers.

I'm in 100% agreement with you... except there are times where I'd prefer a somewhat unbiased professional view of Houston sports. I am a fan... my friends are fans... I know what we think. Its usually biased, homerish, and has clouded judgement. Sometimes I don't want the echo of that (or whatever is regurgitated on the BBS) from guys paid to cover the teams (Adam isn't as bad as Matt... although I can clearly tell when Adam is pissed off about a loss).

I think these guys really need to get out of the Houston market for a little bit. Cover another city and become a little bit more well rounded. Matt T went to Minnesota for a few years, and he presents his takes/views/opinions a lot more professionally now than he did in his first stint in Houston. I've also always respected Charlie because even though he's spent 20+ years in this market, he doesn't go over-the-top homer on you. He sets things straight, and usually his opinion not only makes sense, its backed up by facts.

Agree on all of this. It really hurts because Matt and Adam had the drive that other radio hosts in this market didn't. For another example, I saw Adam this weekend at Texans camp, bright and early Saturday morning, taking notes and staying to get exclusive interviews afterward. It's not a workday for him, and I sure as hell didn't see Nick Wright, Josh Innes or any of the other shock jocks there (and their station actually has the Texans!). But that's just what those two do. They live and breathe Houston sports, and their conversations/interviews have a depth to them that the Nick Wright tier couldn't even dream of.

790 will spin it as merely reshuffling. But adding three hours of a nationally-syndicated show in the middle of the day is the same slippery slope that 1560 started on a few years back. More Tebow, more "hot babe" talk, more regurgitating of SportsCenter and less actual local sports analysis. Sad.

I"m with you on the baseball part. If you're gonna be a radio host in a market as big as Houston, you have to suck it up. You may not love the sport..but you need to know about it, ultimately, to work here. He'll have to work on that. I bet he knows that already. My ultimate test for sports radio guys...would it be cool to have a beer with him. I'd have a beer with Clanton. Seems like a funny guy.

    Not according to the numbers.

Sounds like nobody likes them trailing John Lopez's show at 610 in the ratings... and its not going to get better once football season starts.

It sucks because there are so few quality morning options. I listened to M/A because I always have... not because I particularly thought they were insightful or witty. I don't understand why more people would listen to John Lopez.

Charlie's good that way. Not sure I'd want to grab a beer with him, though :)

I just like that someone can sympathize with me on the radio when my team gets upset or trounced and I feel like crap about it.

When 790 started up, both these guys took huge risks by jumping to a new, unknown station and did very well for themselves considering the circumstances. They really did put that station on the map.
