Instead of appreciating the fact that we have sports radio here and enjoying certain aspects of everyone's work, why are we so critical? We have met the enemy and he is... us?
AB, is this your first time on a message board? BTW, I've seen your act in person, and your elbows are too pointy. Oh, and there is no "certain aspect" of Josh Innes that can be enjoyed, except for when he's getting humiliated by Rich/guest/caller.
Totally indifferent about their firing. 790 has always been pretty boring to me, and when they've tried to entertain it's rather pathetic. 610 mostly entertains (mostly in childish manners) and talks very little sports. Overall the area sports stations rather suck compared to other markets. One has more ratingss due to the NFL, but overall the quality on either isn't much different. You're never going to find the perfect blend station where they talk about every home town team. Especially in this heavy NFLcentric city. The only real show I try to tune into is MAD Radio on 610, and 610's Texans shows during camp and on Tuesdays during the season. There isn't enough Rockets talk at all, and when someone brings up the Astros it's either to mock the team or it's extremely boring. If you're talking 'Stros, I really only want to hear about prospects coming up the system, not what the big league team isn't accomplishing.
Everyone seems to be calling in with support for him, as if he just got diagnosed with cancer. It seems to me that Matt Thomas is on the radio all sorts of odd hours, really worked like a dog, you'd think he'd by happy for a little break.
What are you talking about? Enemy? If people will miss Matt and Adam and already don't like AC, what should they post? That's what internet fan forums are for. Some people here are OK with the change (and a few like it), others are very disappointed. It isn't all about praise. In my particular case, In The Trenches replaced the The Big Show during my commute to work. Now I'm switching to AM610 from 10-11am because Payne & Meltser nuke Koch & Kalu. A bad move for 790 gives 610 the windfall.
In The Trenches is the worst show on that station, by far IMO. I really don't get what people like about it. They should have ditched it and given Matt Thomas a 4 hour show.
They talk nothing but football and Greg Koch goes into "Uncle Greg" mode and tells stories on the air about banging skunks. You struggle to figure out why a lot of sports radio listeners like that show? I hate it as well, but I get why the typical listener likes it.
Did you listen during last season? It was very good IMO and whatever it was that 610 had opposite was terrible IIRC. But the show tanked in the worst way after the Super Bowl and still hasn't recovered. Now I listen for short stints to give it a chance but training camp hasn't made things much better. Part of the problem is MaD radio pretty good and eats their lunch. If In The Trenches is still a dog after the season starts, oh well. Would be a shame. AM610 probably cut the wrong people.
I don't like when radio personalities try to glorify themselves. That's what Koch does so it gets annoying. Just because you're paid to talk doesn't make you important. You've got to bring more to the table than "love me because I'm awesome".
I actually like Payne and Meltzer, it's the only good thing on 610. In The Trenches is probably the worst show in the market because it's worthless for half the year. Their in season football talk is fine but not great, and they aren't nearly broad enough to be appealing for the rest of the year. Jackson and Wexler had a good show and are both better than Clanton who seems to be more of an entertainer than a sports talk guy. He's better than most of the people on 610 though.
Count how many times Payne says "umm" or "uh" next time you listen, once you hear it you cant un-hear it.
This. Throw in some Bun B with MT and we've got the second coming of Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.
