I don't think he was bashing Tracy. If you look closely at his post, I think he was indicating that JVG was able to get the best out of players who had been maligned in the past by the media or other coaches etc.

Its hard to take sides on a debate when you don't know what the argument is - just the consequences of it. We don't know what the main argument is between VG & Bonzi - just that Bonzi isn't playing and Jeff isn't really talking about it. Probably some of our inferences are true but you never know what exchange took place - there are just so many variables that could make VG sit Bonzi like that. Did VG say something to Bonzi that he disagreed with? Maybe. Did Bonzi call out VG in front of the other players? Maybe. Did a confrontation/altercation occur? Who knows. So many things could have happened but chances are Bonzi isn't being sent home just because he isn't absorbing the new system fast enough and has a few nagging injuries preventing him from getting back in shape.

...but here is where I stand. Bonzi was clearly not in shape early in the season and for a professional athlete to come in like that is unacceptable on any standard. We all have jobs - we all have skills we need to do our job well. If we come in hung over or drunk, how well can we do those jobs? Would our employer be out of line to send us to go home until we can get ourselves back together? Now I'm not saying Bonzi was hungover or drunk, but his job as a professional athlete is to perform to the best of his abilites and when he puts no effort into training and maintaing his fitness, he isn't living up to his job description.

I know everyone says Bonzi took peanuts to play for Houston this year(in hopes for a big payoff next year), but Houston still gave him MILLIONS to play for them this year. Let's repeat, MILLIONS. What could YOU do with millions of dollars? I mean Bonzi needs to decide if he wants to work at the game of basketball or get paid MILLIONS - either way he shouldn't show up out of shape. If neither of those things are important to him, he should just go home and stay there. End of story.

No JVG v. Bonzi - just plain common sense....

No problem, I didn't take it as a slight. I figured my post still left a lot of room for interpretation. Although we don't exactly agree, I see your point, it's certainly reasonable.

Now that Tmac is out indefinitely  we're still looking a hell of a lot better than last year when the same thing happened. At least tonight I think we still have a fighting chance against a team w/ one of the best records in the league. Last year we were trying to grind out wins against the lowly Hawks. The timing w/ Bonzi couldn't be any better. Whether we win or lose, Bonzi is a huge success/failure/mediocre, the BBS will be lively tonight!

Interesting note: Dwade is missing tomorrow's game against the suns cause he had his wisdom teeth pulled out today. Hmm..so AI misses a game due to dental work and now Wade...Bonzi didn't even miss a regular season game to his root canals.

i agree for the most part... but you are making this MILLIONS sound too good. dont get me wrong, i would LOVE millions!!! but, in perspective, he is getting payed VERY little. and, this MILLIONS you speak of is probably just as much as ryan bowen got payed. i know the circumstances and all, but still, 2 millions for a year ain't that much for a ball player...

You're right... he missed them because he wasn't in shape.

Who does he guard defensively? That's probably his biggest limiting factor right now.

You're right this is a players league.....and since their basketball IQ is so low it must be frustrating for a guy like JVG to coach so many guys he is so much smarter than and to accept criticism from so many guys he is also so much smarter than.......don't you know his appreciation for the game sometimes forces him to bite his toungue and put this most deserving players on the floor even when its not the most popular decisions. Tough job, huh?

He looked like a 60-year old walrus out there.

Getting your wisdom teeth pulled has a longer recovery time than a root canal, from my experience.

BTW, Old Man Rock, I think you should re-read the 790: Bonzi is Back thread...I don't quite know where you got the idea that Luffy1 = Bonzi Wells (and I don't quite know if you're serious or not - I figured at first you were joking but as you continued posting, it seemed that you weren't). However, if it was Sir Jackie Chile's post

that made you believe it, he read this incorrectly as well. The post was a reply to someone else who mentioned that they were fine after their surgery. He wasn't saying that he had just had the surgery (or indicating that he was BW)

In case you were wondering, the previous quote is what I'm talking about.

Ok, I understand that point. I was referring to the fact that Bonzi had to attempt to mend the fence with JVG. After he already signed with the Rockets. I seem to recall a few suitors were willing to give him an opportunity at the same bargain basement rate that we had or close to it, but would NOT risk the potential fat contract that Bonzi scoffed at with Sacramento. Ok, so now we're straight. ;)

I'm still on a side bar am baffled though how you see that Bonzi is a CLASS Act when, he has been declared on countless occasions pretty much short of a malcontent AKA Isaiah "J.R." Rider?

Bonzi Wells makes very little? I think its ironic how, after I complete my PhD, the "very little" bit of money that he's making is exponentially more than I'll make in a number of years. Comparativey speaking, even the bottom 5% of NBA players make more money than most people in the world. Thus, I don't think that money is any reason NOT to play basketball (especially when you're in earning a paycheck).

I don't think he was referring to your daddy. But since you bring up the subject. All the coach did was bench the starters because he thought the game was over and they sucked and told the reserves to forget about his plan and just play with energy. He never called a timeout until the end and then inserted Yao with less than 1 minute. He even later referred to the comeback as a skirmish that was possible because LA quit. Seems to me his best coaching for that game was non coaching. Once the team was free to execute they found some success. Perhaps a little less Van Gundy rigid plan and a little more skirmishing should be in order.

you mean he did it basically the same way the great gregg popovich did it against the rockets? stupid gundy. he should always try not to coach. the team will be better off then.
