I'm not saying it's right, but how many times could any of us stand to be asked the same question over and over again. I mean, eventually, it's going to bother you even if you're getting paid millions and doing something wonderful. The media keeps talking about how great the media pressure is as you approach the record, but when someone caves into it, they say he hates the media and is a jerk. I just think it's a lot to handle for anyone. Even for the average athlete it probably gets to be a bit much when the whole world is stalking you. I might just crawl into a cave too....
I'm so happy for Barry. He just completed what was one of the best seasons in Major League history, without a doubt. The numbers he has put up are astounding. I was there to see 70..something I'll never forget. If Barry were an Astro, most of those who claim to hate him here would be his biggest fan! He didn't like the media from the beginning of his career because his dad told him to be skeptical of them...they've defined his personality ever since to the world. What's sad is they didn't give enough attention to a season that makes McGwire's '98 look like Julio Lugo!
