and the article doesn't even say the guys are all black really, yes it implies they are but it never says that.

that's all I have to say, good work by law enforcement nailing these guys who seem like a bunch of clowns.

I don't know what types of food he finds appetizing. Plus, he may send others to get the food for him!

There's also the chance he may be in the mood for some nasty Putt-Putt pizza. Not likely seeing as it usually tastes like throw-up (slight exaggeration).

but that's who the media was led to believe they were when this whole thing broke.

note that in the story, the "b" in Black Muslim is capitalized.

I think the fact that the title of this thread is a bigger subject of debate than the discussing how much of a threat these guys might've been shows how much of a serious threat this was.

These guys seemed to be pretty much a joke. The terrorists that carried out 9/11 had trained in Afghanistan and some of them were well educated already. These guys OTOH seemed far less capable than even Moussaioui who pretty much the rest of Al Qaeda dismiss as incompetant.

I think you're underestimating these clowns. Don't forget it didn't take much for Tim McVeigh and Terry Nichols to buy a bunch of fertilizer and blow up the federal building in Oklahoma City. If these guys in Florida had gotten financing from Al Qaeda or some other group, who is to say that they couldn't have done the same thing? To try to trivialize this is short sighted.

^ I'm not saying they shouldn't have been arrested but I have a hard time seeing this as a great victory in the war on terror.

And Terry Nichols was a well-trained militia, aka gun nuts, aka 2nd Amendment warrior.

I agree. Those who bill it as such are overconfident and invite complacency, which puts the rest of us at greater peril.

Those who disagree trivialize the great work of our law enforcement, which could lead to less motivation for them to do their job in the future.

Very true. If these guys had been ignored or passed over as not a serious threat and then had succeed in a terrorist plot, the American masses would be all over the place looking for a scapegoat. The whole war on terror is a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario.

As opposed to blow this thing out of proportion?

These 7 guys were some kooks with no money but some delusions of grandeur. They meet a guy working for the FBI pretending to be Al Qaeda, the pledge loyalty to him, ask him for some money and stuff because they're way to poor to afford even some boots for themselves. They go off and videotape the Miami FBI headquarters and talk about blowing up the Sears Tower even though they can't afford to buy a plane ticket. Yes these guys could very well be a threat if they actually could find a real Al Qaeda guy, if they were a little brighter and if they had some money. All of those are some pretty big "ifs". I'm not faulting the authorities for arresting these guys and nipping anyplans they might have had in the bud but seriously these guys didn't represent much of a threat and most of what made them potentially threatening was due to the FBI informant who was financing them.

Saint Louis is right to an extant though too. If these guys had actually blown up the Sears Tower people would be screaming bloody murder and their would be another 9/11 type commission and handwringing over why the authorities let these guys slip through their grasps. To a certain extant stopping these threats is a thankless job but even giving that looking at these seven I have a hard time seeing them as being anything more than a few nutjobs with delusions of grandeur even though they can't even clothe themselvs properly. Blowing tis up as a great victory in the war on terror and foiling a major terror plot is sensaationalizing it.

Well...i think it was a pretty big deal.

Mindless, cashless, grandeur-delusioning kooks like these -- just smart enough to get organized, to make contact and attempt to get their plan together -- are the types who could easily be used to blow things up real good.

Score one for the good guys.

So that was why the informant had to lead them on for so long? Perhaps we should lock up all mindless, cashless grandeur-delusioning kooks.

Any bets that none of these seven jokesters could pick the Sears Tower out of a lineup?
