I'm also surprised more people haven't heard of the "Black Muslim" radical group.

From what I learned way back in high school, they were a more radical offshoot of the Nation of Islam in the 60s and 70s. Nowadays, people just refer to members of the Nation of Islam as "Black Muslims." From what I can gather, members refer to themselves that way as well.

It has nothing to do with being an African-American who happens to choose Islam as his/her religion.

I don't know that it is racism - more demographics than anything. The largest racial group in America are whites, more than 75% of the country. The largest religious group in America are Christians, also more than 75%. If no race or religion is mentioned, your safest bet would be to assume white Christian.

Adding planes instead of firearms may be more appropiate for a modern day terroristic connection...

The group calls itself the "Seas of David", and their meeting place is a 'temple', and thy study a mix of Jewish, Christian, and Islamic scriptures...never heard of them until now.

Don't link terror suspects to us, Muslim leaders say

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-0624muslims,0,584506.story

Minutes after U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta announced indictments on Friday against an alleged terror cell, a Muslim leader took to the steps of the city's federal courthouse and said the suspects "were not known" at either of two mosques near the warehouse in the Liberty City neighborhood where authorities arrested them. Ahmed Bedier, of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said he and other Muslims feared some would try to connect Islam and the men's alleged plot to blow up a slew of federal buildings and the Sears Tower in Chicago.

"This seems like some kind of cult group that shares nothing with our community," Bedier told reporters of the suspects.

He asked the pressnews media not to refer to the suspects as Muslims. "Muslims don't worship at warehouses," Bedier said. "They don't sleep in warehouses."

Concerned the case might lead some to paint defaming graffiti, damage mosques or homes, CAIR's legal director in Florida, Areeb Naseer, asked police to be vigilant. "We are concerned about a backlash against the Muslim community as a result of these arrests," Naseer said.

Incidents of vandalism against Muslim shops, mosques and community centers increased after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., which also prompted authorities to search Arab-Americans at airport security checkpoints, community leaders said.

Law enforcement officials sought to preempt any negative, generalized reactions.

"Today's indictment is against individuals. It's not against a particular group or a particular faith," U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta said.

The grand jury's indictment said the group's alleged ringleader, NarsealĂ– Batiste, told a confidential informant he meant to build an "Islamic Army" to wage a holy war. But in Liberty City, where camera crews set up shop outside the suspects' warehouse headquarters, residents questioned that connection.

Families of two suspects said the men were involved in Bible studies.

The mother of one, Stanley Grant Phanor, said he went to church every Sunday.

"He loves to read the Bible," said Phanor's mother, Elizene Phanor.

Minister Rasul Muhammad,Ă– of the Muhammad Mosque No. 29, criticized journalists for initially reporting the suspects were "black Muslim radicals." He said such portrayals unfairly linked a faith and an ethnicity to crime.

"We didn't ask what church Timothy McVeigh came from," he said, of the Oklahoma City bomber.

So how is the war on terror going to sop people from turning into this, and desiring this? If anything it's feeding it.

No need to play politics here.

9/11 occurred under Dubya's watch, with Condi being the "National Security Advisor" (*snicker*), who repeatedly ignored the counter terrorism recommendations of Richard Clarke and his requests to have National Security Council's Principals Committee meeting on al Qaeda network.

Bush and Condi have on their hands the blood of 9/11 victims. Plain and simple.

What was the title of that August PDB again?

are you majoring in internet message board spell check at rice? your parents must be proud. "provocateur"...is that better french-boy? :D

LOL..."jewish conspiracy theory". what the heck are you talking about? i love charges of antisemitism/racism from someone who felt the need in the thread title to point out that the accused are "black". Sad.

i know its a real difficult concept for you ditto-heads to grasp, but just because one finds the cheney administration to be the most corrupt, criminial and lying government we have ever seen does not make one a liberal. however, i know it makes it easier for you to lump us all together, so go ahead and continue living in your little false paradigm. your a great american!

given the cheney administrations track record, i dont trust anything they do. they have proven themselves time and time again to be a bunch of liars and criminals. i see this for what it is - setting up a bunch of poor, uneducated guys to run their mouths off so that they could get some headline-worthy arrests in the "war on terror". fear mongering on the part of the neo-cons leading up to the elections. i bet we see alot more of these type of incidents in the months leading up to november.

You may or may not find him eating lunch, but if you search the most well known places with the most apetizing food, you stand a better chance than looking for him at a Putt-Putt(missle defense)

Did anyone really doubt why the words Black were included in his title.

Ignore the color hater, people and he will have nothing to argue about his false reasonings.

I can't say whether the reporter decided to make the assumption these folks were "Black Muslims" just to be incendiary...or if bigtexx intentionally put the words "Black Muslims" in his thread title for the same purposes.

However, whatever their intentions, it doesn't change the fact that there was a nationalistic radical offshoot of the Nation of Islam that called themselves the "Black Muslims." It's altogether possible that the reporter's sources indicated these guys were part of the "Black Muslims" group and he composed the title without realizing the potential racial implications.

All of this is strangely reminiscent of the time David Howard used the word "*****rdly" in his budget report.

You need to educate yourself. Start by reading MadMax's posts in this thread.

Some of you are just looking for ways to slander me, which I find sad.
