 Huh? What are you mad about? The fact that I included the word "black" in my title? Take it up with MSNBC since that's how they described the accused.

I'll be the bigger man here and ignore your insult.

i don't see what being black has to do with the substance of the story. any other time you would be all over the liberal media, I just find it convient for you to use them as your excuse.

"black muslims" are different from muslims

there are many true muslims who are black. but most muslims feel the word "muslim" was hijacked by those who are called "black muslims."

those who identify with the black muslim movement are not recongized by Islam as true muslims. it's seen as more of a political movement than a religion. think Malcom X before his trip to Mecca. then he sees Islam and changes.

i think when the details were first coming out on this story, the reporters thought that these guys were "black muslims." not muslims who are black.

    understand what i'm saying??

and in the first few paragraphs, there's this:

"The men — part of a radical Black Muslim group — were planning terror acts in Miami and Chicago, officials say."

again...Black Muslim is different from Muslim. one can be black and be Muslim. one can be black...and Muslim...and think the Black Muslims are off their collective rocker.

White Baptist Republican Tom Delay indicted today. One can be white and be Baptist. One can be white and Republican and yet one can be white and just be Baptist. One can be white and be indicted and one can be Baptist and be indicted but... okay I lost myself.

    CometsWin,

If you're making a general argument about the way the media selectively injects race/ethnicity into the news (and how it chooses to omit that info on other occasions), you have a valid point. I think most people understand how that works in our society: a Black guy gets caught stealing and he's described as a "28 year old Black man" (Same thing happens with Hispanics, Muslims, and few others), while a White guy gets caught stealing and he's described as a "28 years old man". It's subtle racism, which is still alive and well in our society and embraced by many.

but there is no group known as White Baptists. no group identifies themselves that way.

there is a group, however, that identifies itself as Black Muslims.

For example, Black Muslims is a phrase often used in the United States of America to denote members of Louis Farrakhan's separatist Black-nationalist movement, the Nation of Islam.

    I took my baby
    On a saturday bang
Boy is that girl with you
Yes were one and the same

    Now I believe in miracles
    And a miracle
    Has happened tonight

    But, if
    Youre thinkin
    About my baby
    It dont matter if youre
    Black or white

    They print my message
    In the saturday sun
    I had to tell them
    I aint second to none

    And I told about equality
    An its true
    Either youre wrong
    Or youre right

    But, if
    Youre thinkin
    About my baby
    It dont matter if youre
    Black or white

I am tired of this devil
I am tired of this stuff
I am tired of this business
    Sew when the
    Going gets rough
    I aint scared of
    Your brother
I aint scared of no sheets
    I aint scare of nobody
    Girl when the
    Goin gets mean

    (l. t. b. rap performance)
    Protection
    For gangs, clubs
    And nations
    Causing grief in
    Human relations
    Its a turf war
    On a global scale
    Id rather hear both sides
    Of the tale
    See, its not about races
    Just places
    Faces
    Where your blood
    Comes from
    Is where your space is
    Ive seen the bright
    Get duller
    Im not going to spend
    My life being a color

    (michael)
Dont tell me you agree with me
When I saw you kicking dirt in my eye

    But, if
    Youre thinkin about my baby
It dont matter if youre black or white

    I said if
    Youre thinkin of
    Being my baby
It dont matter if youre black or white

    I said if
    Youre thinkin of
    Being my brother
    It dont matter if youre
    Black or white

    Ooh, ooh
    Yea, yea, yea now
    Ooh, ooh
    Yea, yea, yea now

    Its black, its white
    Its tough for you
    To get by
Its black , its white, whoo

    Its black, its white
    Its tough for you
    To get by
Its black , its white, whoo

The thread title says 7 Radical Black Muslims. It doesn't say 7 members of the Black Muslim Group or a black Muslim group as is actually the case. His title was intentionally inflammatory and we recognize him for that.

in the 60's and 70's, they were referred to as Black Muslims. it was understood to be distinct from what we traditionally viewed as Muslims, because they were big on separation of the races/return to Africa. it was a political group....they had their own prophet, who was not recognized as such by Muslims around the world. you would not need to add the word "radical" to Black Muslims...it's understood.

when i read the article, i knew exactly what they were talking about. in fact, my first thought was that i doubt al qaeda would want anything to do with them.

i understand that ultimately these guys weren't Black Muslims. but that's what was believed initially, given their background as I understand it.

look, rarely do i defend bigtexxx, here. but i think people are misinterpreting it. i thought more people understood Black Muslim is not the same thing as black Muslim. apparently that's not the case. but they're two very different things.

Oh, it has nothing to do with liberal or conservative media, it's become an accepted part of our society because not enough people have protested it or made it a major issue.

Both lefties and right-wingers are guilty of this, I am not going to place blame on one side and not the other...

I have often seen the Nation of Islam referred to as Black Muslims. It was meant to be different than people who were black and happened to be main stream Muslims.

It isn't an uncommon thing at all.

I was surprised more people weren't familiar with it as I was reading the tread.

It is possible bigtexxx knew the reaction is thread title would get, and put it up there with his response at the ready. Who knows? There isn't any way or any point to proving it.
