Of course - but it does prove the irrelevance of the 2nd Amendment here. There's no question it allows banning or regulating certaining weaponry. I can certainly and clearly state that a weapon that can discharge more quickly can do more damage than one that discharges slowly. The fact that you think, amongst other things, 50 million Americans getting health care coverage is a hollow victory that does very little says all I need to know. If we can have that level of impact with an assault weapons ban, that's a huge amount of progress for this country.
A small town can't protect themselves from the government with a rifle. With a nuke, they can. Perhaps we should draw the line there instead?
There are 7000 schools in Texas, assuming we pay those officers $50,000 per year, we are looking at a bill of $350 million before benefits. Should we raise taxes to pay for these additional costs?
Hmm... raise taxes? Can't do that; better to cut spending somewhere, like in mental health care spending...
A function of government is protecting rights (right to life is primary). So yes. This would be a reasonable reason to raise taxes. You could also produce the funding by cutting spending somewhere else......
That's right, we need to arm the kids, heck, all that is needed is more guns in schools... http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Kingwood-students-accused-of-leaving-threatening-4129272.php
I would have no problem paying higher taxes for guards, preferably armed with shoulder fired weapons at public school. At my daughters middle school, we have a tough looking armed resource officer, but I'd rather he carry a carbine than a pistol in case of defending across a parking lot or something... Any event that draws lots of people together needs more and better security anyways. I.e., At a school elementary, middle, high with a modest 400 kids, have each family pay $5 per week, that pays for a $2000 per week/ $50,000 year salary I'd vote for that!
we have a serious freaking problem when a 11 year old child believes that in order to keep safe...they should carry a gun...society doesn't need to worry about the world ending on any particular day or prophesy...its already degenerated to a point when the slightest instability among humans will lead to our own demise... We have lost the ability to reason and use logic...and this lack of being able to communicate has permeated to our kids...Parents these days feel the lack of advising young troubled adults..."once they are 18...let them be..." This knew found independence has led us to this door...kids dont know how to deal with problems that are real and cause pain...as anger is reflected inwards it creates a new creature of evil and destruction...it is this face that was seen one week ago in Newtown CT... I am calling out parents everywhere for not being a part of your children's lives...for not knowing...for not allowing to know..and not having a personal relationship with your kids...for not getting help when kids are crying out...the lack of family and family values have destroyed our culture and has caused us this kinda heart ache and pain...
A lot of reason. We need a lot less single mother-upbringing of children. We need better dual parents who don't think of themselves, and rather invest more time with the children they accidentally or purposefully brought into this world...
Im a Christian...perhaps someone more by name than deed...but one of the most important messages is people should never feel alone...isolated..single... If your kids are sitting alone in their room...and your downstairs watching TV...you got a problem... If your son is off in college and you dont know that he is binge drinking every other week...you have a problem... Society has created this issue we are now faced with...These kinda issues werent seen in the 50s etc?? Im a young adult male, that have had my parents very much a part of my life...Even when i wanted to be alone...isolated...they have never ever left me...and still to this day inquire about everything in my life. That is whats missing. This is whats lacking. Kids believe it to be abnormal, bc its not something that is done on a normal, daily basis...and that is a parental responsiblity...
There was a 8th grader that brought a gun to my local junior high where my brother went to school, I was in the 3rd grade at the school next door. The kid held the vice principle hostage for several hours at gun point. This was 1987 in Pasadena, TX. http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/a...tedly-boasted-of-plan-to-hold-administra.html
