Not to mention, it's not the first time the joke has been made to his face. Zach G. did it in "Between Two Ferns".

And those things are, for sure, cleared with the artists beforehand. So obviously Willis is able to joke about it.

Yeah, this was my favorite. Sometimes I can just think of it, and start laughing out loud.

I was hoping AR Rahman won the best score for 127 hours. I heard 2 songs in the Social Network. If anything, I expected Hans for Inception. Social Network was like the 'Slumdog' at this year's Golden Globes. I hope this won't happen at the Oscars. Some serious credibility could be lost.

I doubt Gervais wrote the lines himself in the Globes.

Ricky Gervais Banned From the Globes

Ricky Gervais didn’t hold back against Angelina Jolie, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, John Travolta, Tom Cruise, Hugh Hefner and others last night at the Golden Globe Awards. You’d think that would be why he won’t be invited back next year but, surprisingly, that’s only partially the case. What got him in the most trouble was when he made fun of Philip Berk, head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Apparently calling out the guy who threw the event is crossing the line. A member of the HFPA told Popeater,

“Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure,” a member of the HFPA tells me, adding that Gervais’ relentlessly mean shtick could have even larger consequences. “For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain.”

Uh oh. Ricky’s movies won’t be nominated for the prestigious Golden Globes and a bunch of reps are already boo-hooing.

At least Ricky didn’t end it on a good note. Instead, choosing to go out in a blaze of glory joking, “Thank God for making me an atheist.”

“Ricky blew it big time. It’s one thing to make fun of celebrities but it’s another to make them totally uncomfortable,” an insider tells me. “People in that room were furious but had to sit and smile because the camera’s were on them. It really says something when several people who attended said they would have felt safer with Kathy Griffin hosting.”

Okay, I can see it from the celebrities’ points of view. No one wants to sit through two hours of a tubby British guy making fun of them. That’s like cutting down your self-esteem with a machine gun and then blasting the carcass with a cruise missile. But, come on. They’re jokes with a hint of truth. Can no one handle criticism? I’m sure butt hurt celebs will find comfort in their multi-million dollar mansions as they cry into their $500 pillow cases. If I’m a celebrity and the worse thing that happens to me is some guy tells funny jokes at my expense for one self-indulgent night of the year, then I’d feel I’d have a pretty damn good life.

A little more on the banning....

Agree totally. This is not a roast, but an awards show.

If true pretty much shows how vain and in fact immature a lot of these people really are. I mean not nominating his future movies? Just by saying that you are basically saying that the whole Globes is a joke influenced by things outside the movie itself(yes I know it already is but this is just them proving it).

The academy got mad at Letterman doing the Uma/Oprah thing. I'm sure they won't mind.

    From the original "source":

Ricky explained his nearly hour-long absence in comments to BBC News a day after the show. "I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance. I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for, and who I knew had a good sense of humor."

He added, "Everyone took it well and the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great."

Sounds to me like it was the people at home that had problems with it and not to much the actors...

I've also havent heard anything about him being banned from tv sources. I read the "he's been banned" quote this morning on another site, which had a lot of misinformation. Gervais has also claimed he wasn't banned. I think he'll likely not be asked to host again, but i think websites are reaching and claiming he's been officially banned.

Its the same thing as when Colbert went insane at the correspondents dinner. When you hire a satirist to perform, they need something to satirize. If you yourself are bull****, odds are, you're going to be the brunt of it.

Satirists dont make jokes - the use jokes to reveal a truth. Gervais went after the vapid, shallow, self-loving, corruption of Hollywood award shows and hit a nerve. People are surprised? Have they seen his previous work?

Gervais just increased his popularity ten fold in America.

Great job, I think he's a great comedian.

Thanks for sharing I love Patrick Stewart.

If you don't like these type of jokes then don't hang out with an Englishman. That's how the guys across the pond joke around.
