If that's true he should of pushed harder. Harpring was who I had hoped the Rockets would go after last year. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=2343812&postcount=32 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=2291014&postcount=72
If that's the case, then why didn't Novak get a single minute of PT this year? Hard for me to believe that JVG was after this guy so much like you say when he couldn't even move past the 12th spot on the bench all year long. Plus, if I remember right, most "experts" were wondering why Novak wasn't picked earlier, not saying he was drafted too high. They were saying he could be a sleeper at #32.
i dont know why that guy said novak was jvgs pick..he isnt even involved in the draft. yes, jvg commented on the benefits of a range shooting 4, but that doesnt mean he wanted novak.
Could be, but I had the opportunity to talk to him prior to the draft he was very honest in my opinion. He told me that Brandon Roy would be a very good fit for the team because he wanted a 2 guard so TMac could play the 3 spot and he said he would much rather have a veteran if Roy wasn't there and he said Matt Harpring would be a very good fit for them, because he could hit the open shot, he was a very good defender, hustle player and would bring some toughness. Getting to talk with Gundy was a highlight for me as a Rocket fan, he is a very intelligent coach and really understood what we needed to improve. - Which I don't think we got the players he wanted. I am all behind Adelman, since Grumpy's time is over.
And you should really stop posting. Or learn a little more about basketball. Lucky for you I didn't ask for a tip jar bet on your ultra-dumb opinion that the Rockets' didn't need athletes. Funny you can remember the draft but can't remember the Utah playoffs.
Sounds like you don't have the entire story. The GM lets his brand new assistant make a 2 for 1 deal. The owner didn't want it, and the coach sits by and watches it all unfold without a peep? I have a mansion in bermuda for 5 grand to sell you.
Did JVG try to play Steve Novak and Scott Padgett at the first couple of games? Oh, then JVG found out his new philosophy with stiff spot up shooters didnt work and fell back quickly to what he did in the old days. It's like a kid who opened his new toys he cried for and threw it away after 2 minutes. Experts? what experts? Well the sleeper is sleeping anyway and I dont even know if he will be awake or not. If things dont work out this season for Novak, he's gone from NBA for good. Since most of the pure shooters dont make a living in NBA. And below is a partial profile of Novak in draftexpress.com that talks about pure shooters in draft.
The sentence is confusing..."it was Morey's trade not his" but "CD and him signed off on the deal". Who is the "him"....VG or Les? Battier is a drop dead VG player. He has all the earmarkings of a VG player. Whether VG values Harpring over Battier is fundamentally irrelevant. They are essentially the same player. And neither IMHO was worth the upside of Rudy Gay. I've said it before and it's worth repeating. On the Battier trade...VG wasn't driving the car but was very pleased with the destination.
First, I didnt say Novak was JVG pick. I said the FO drafted Novak because JVG asked for shooters. So, the FO got one for JVG with their limited resources. Did the Rockets ask for Kryle Krover many times?
Battier was much more of a contributor than any of those rookies would've been excepting Roy. Maybe we should've gotten a draft pick out of it, but I still think it was a great deal. Battier continues to have value either as trade bait or as a player the Rockets move forward with. Props to whosever trade this was.
well if the toy sucks, then it sucks...just like the rockets did with novak on the floor. the guy was completely outmatched out there his rookie year
jvg has said before that he isnt involved in the draft, or at least not actively but im sure he is there as input. i guess you're wasting my time
It's always great reading about things people absolutely have no idea of what happened. I don't know how some people can be so opinionated and so sure of themselves when they weren't there. You can say what you THINK happened, but that wouldn't result in some know it all attitude. The wonders of a message board...
Maybe Sac town will sign JVG when SVG bolts for Orlando, and then we can trade Battier + No. 26 pick + fodder to Sac for Artest + No. 10 pick.
A coach with input in a draft to determine the outcome and he isnt involved in the draft!? Cant believe people can slap himself on his face so hard in the public.
look, all im saying is that jvg has said himself that he doesnt get involved in the draft. i dont know what exactly he meant by involved but im assuming scouting and the actual drafting of players. However, i would imagine that if asked about something, like the battier trade, he will give his advice, hence his input. didnt think that was a hard concept...but i guess jvg is the liar, right?
