I have heard that it's a major, unexpected front office shakeup. That's a rumor, obviously, but this source broke the news of the press conference's scheduling before SR610 or the Astros' site mentioned it, so maybe he knows something.

He would be a fool to sign this early, not knowing who the Astros are going to surround him with. Isn't he shopping for a new agent? Can he even negotiate until he finds one?

Gerry Hunsicker receives another extension. I could see that; only question i have with the tv deal, wouldn't that be a joint press conference with the rockets?

It doesn't have to be, since technically, there is no longer a "partnership" in the network... they just both got new fat deals from Fox.

Also, a TV deal means much more to a baseball team than it does to a basketball team.

I also think it could be something to do w/ Hunsicker... you gotta resign him before you think about dealin with any players or managers.

Is that really a major announcement though?

The only think I can think of that would be major is

Beltran signs - (I don't think that is it)
Someone renegotiates their contract to free up cash for Beltran
    Someone retires

In the astros case i think so. We know they aren't resigning Beltran, at least yet. No Astro is going to retire; and i don't think renegotiating a current contract would qualify as big news.

    We'll know shortly

Sounds like it's about Hunsicker getting an extension or not choosing to comeback when his current one is done.
