Actually, I think it would be kinda cool to have a Pope Bonzi.

Then, we can extend this to the President. Instead of Ronald or George or Bill, how about President Magic? or President Sleepy? Great stuff.

I want to freak out like some of you, but I know this is just a little bump in the road, and everything will work out best for the Rockets.

    WCF bound.

I really hope that if Bonzi comes back after the death of a close friend or family member and does just fine a lot of you guys will be as quick to say you acted stupid by jumping to conclusions as you were to jump to those conclusions in the first place.

If JVG is excusing him, it is no doubt a serious personal situation he needs to clear up. Let's hope he and his family/friends are ok and wish him well instead of assuming immediately that he's bailing on the team.

I think we can all agree Bonzi will not be a starter on November 1st. The "chemistry time" he misses during the preseason almost guarantees a slow transition on to the team. Best case scenario is whenever he comes back, we start strong without him and all of this is forgotten by the end of the season when gearing up for the playoffs.

man some posters here just look real bad in their examination of bonzi. give the guy a break, perhaps a tragedy occured in his family and he needs to take care of it. he has a checkered past but he should have a clean slate here. last year he was a pretty good citizen as well, so he may have matured.

pgabriel, t-mac had an excused absence last year, what did you have to say about that.

If this really is a serious issue, I'm sorry for my initial reaction. Given Bonzi's past history and the thread title "Leaving team for personal reasons" I figured he was in diva mode.

Some posters in the BBS are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to quick to jump the gun!

    Give the guy a break!

JVG wouldn't let any player just skip out on practice or a game for any reason.

t-mac doesn't have a history of not getting along with manangement while under contract or at least other letting them know he isn't gonna resign.

why should bonzi have a clean slate here, other than the fact that you are a fan of the team he is playing for.

I really doubt its a death in the family because why wouldn't an organization just come and say someone has a death in the family. that makes no sense. why create an issue of doubt among fans and the media if its something that no one would question the player's character about.

a lot of posters think I'm negative on all rockets when that's not true. I've always loved bonzi's game, even when I saw him college at Ball State I believe. I love his mid range game, the way he can post up smaller players, the way he can drive baseline, and he plays defense. the guy is an excellent ball player, but he has issues, and I'm not gonna ignore them because I root for the team he's on.

I'd say it's 50/50 if it's a reasonable problem or a Bonzi-headcase type problem. It's 100% that no one knows the truth right now so I agree it's unfair to jump on the 'here we go again, typical Bonzi' bandwagon. But I will also say that the skeptics aren't unwarranted here. He has a history and a pattern of doing erratic things. In my experience, when there's smoke, there is the possiblity of fire. If you don't pay attention you will get burned eventually. In the end my prediction is it's just a personal problem, he's away for a few days, and we're back to business as usual. But at this rate I don't see Bonzi in the starting 5 for the first few regular season games, if at all.

we talking about the same t-mac? prior to being a rocket he had his own share of issues including the famous i might retire from basketball speech. obviously as a rocket, t-mac has shown to be one of the best guys in the nba and a great teammate. that was not his reputation in the past. bonzi gets a clean slate, of course because i'm a fan, but also because he hasn't done anything wrong HERE and i certainly don't have enough information to call him a headcase because of this excused absence.

what good does it do to always treat him like he just broke something?

I started on page 1, and then skipped to the last page. I just don't see a story, besides the obvious... he has an excused absence. It happens. Man, it can become a soap opera around here in a New York minute.

he's a headcase because of previous incidents. he was only signed a month ago, so yeah he hasn't done anything here, you act like he's been here two years.
