Wow i thought the reason tmac got to rest during the game was because of Bonzi. Also When Bonzi was taken out the game I think thats when the spurs began their run.

Chuck and Deke aren't good offensive players, but they have ways of contributing. Chuck's been the best frontcourt partner with Yao I've seen, albeit in a small sample. Foster is an upgrade over Chuck and would be able to play center, which is important while Yao is out. And grabbing offensive rebounds means you're still contributing on offense. When teams "let" Chuck grab o-rebs it's a boon for us, not a liability.

And I don't see Foster's contract as a negative at all. He's getting paid almost half of what Tyson Chandler is getting while playing on par, if not better. If he had offensive game, he'd be getting a much higher salary. He's good at his one dimension, which is why he's making MLE money. The only "big" making MLE that plays better than Foster is Udonis Haslem, and Haslem turned down a more lucrative contract from Cleveland to stay in Miami.

Walton seems to not like JVG and it all stems from the way he uses Yao.

Walton has begged for some high post offense featuring Yao.....

I think Bill disagrees with how JVG is playing Yao.

Salaries probably don't match and all that, but I think I'd trade Luther for Foster.

    Why?

    Heck no !

Don't make panic moves for the now, we are good enough to stay in it until Yao gets back.

You're probably right. But while we're without Yao, I definitely think we'd be better off with Foster over Head.

*Only* if Bonzi becomes an effective third scoring option off the bench.

Even then, I'd hate to lose Luther's outside shooting threat & spacing...even now. I don't know that the added inside defense/rebounding compensates for that loss on the offensive end.

I think the value of Luther's outside shooting to our offense is somewhat overrated. He's shooting only 32% on 3-pointers in January. Maybe it's the ball? I have a feeling his 3-pt % will continue to fall as the season progresses. And he really doesn't do a whole lot else for us. I cringe when he's dribbling the ball in our half court sets (or in the open court, for that matter). I think Snyder would be an adequate replacement in the rotation. Problem is Luther's getting a lot of minutes at backup PG now; we'd have to either play Lucas/V-Span or acquire another PG.

Interestingly, Luther started off shooting 48% in the first month of his rookie year as well. But he dipped to 31% and 29% in the following two months.

32%? Ouch. Didn't realize he had been *that* bad lately. No wonder his streak ended. His ball-handling is still terrible, true.

But he does do some other things well on the offensive end -- he cuts really well to the basket especially on those give-and-gos, and he is still a threat to get to the hole with his quick first step. Maybe he caught the shooting bug from Rafer...but still, this is just a mediocre couple of weeks. No question we need an extra body up front, but I'd really rather give up an expiring like Sura...assuming Indiana is willing to let Foster go.

I guess I've learned to tune him out. I always heard the positives the broadcasters were saying about the Rox defense and hustle. Especially the fact that they made point to say "this is why they'll almost always be in a game" - because of their defense.

Are you kidding??? For Brent Barry? WOW! Popovich would be laughing all the way to the bank if they managed to convince us to make that trade.

Brent Barry is just a spot-up shooter. He doesn't do much of anything else. Sure, he's solid and isn't a liability, but...uh, to give up a legit 3rd option in Bonzi for basically a smaller version of scott padgett....bleh.

considering how important the 3p shot is to this team especially in the backcourt. barry currently has the third best 3p%. i think adding someone like barry would help the rockets win against the suns.

it's half way through the season bonzi has only 14 games to show for and we're yet to see him as a legit 3rd option.

You guys who say JVG is coaching specifically to save his job are r****ded. He coaches to win, period. Do you honestly think that if the Rockets fired JVG he wouldn't be able to get a job anywhere else in the league?

what about bonzi in the low post and yao at the high as a passer/jump shooter and tmac as the perimeter threat? hell if bonzi gets a double then yao comes weak side for an easy two.

it can work and jvg should try it. with some good off the ball movement, yao hits a cutter, or bonzi works the post, tmac breaks free for a wide open look.

He's definitely employable, but "anywhere"? His style and personality don't work "everywhere".
