When did Rockem' Sockem' Bob have his microsomething knee surgery? I agree with those that think this is a positive PR, type move. Only reason to do it. Bobby's back, or expected to come back, better grab those seats now.
Now, if we could just get Shawn to touch Sura's body, Tracy's back, and Yao's foot - we'd all be fine!
I wish I could be optimistic, but I'm not sure. I hope he comes back, though. It would suck if he retired
I think the press conference will be a retirement announcement. They think what most of us who don't know think and that is the Sura is done - unfortunately. They are giving him 1 last shot before the decision. But if they thought he could come back, why the push all off-season for pgs/sgs if they thought he'd could come back?
I would have to think that Brass wouldn't just throw him out there to the wolves to make a fool of himself and look like an idiot--nor would somebody as tough as Sura go for it. It's not like he just arrived back from space and no one's seen him. I expect that Bobby will show that he has recovered well and is looking to contribute significantly next season. The whole "mystery session" is just a good PR way to deliver good news and get people back onboard after the draft day debacle... at least that's a PR man's take
Got Rock, I agree with you. What purpose does it serve to work out just BEFORE announcing your retirement? I certainly hope he can come back. I recall last year on one of the TV games that Jon Barry called, Barry saying that he and Bobby were running full court that week and that Sura looked good and ready to play. That was at the end of last season.
If the P.R. guys are reading this and are wondering if trotting out a healthy Bob Sura before the season starts will help them sell tickets and get fans excited. The answer is yes. At least for this Rockets fan.
While overlooking this thread you guys seem to think Bobby Sura is an All-Star player, the reason the NBA is made, god's gift for a NBA player, etc. What is this? Don't get me wrong, I'd really like Bobby to be on this team, but not if it means take away rotational time, to try to ease up the pain. He's not going to return 100%, rare for it to be 50%. However, if he can be on the bench supporting us and practicing with us, it's much appreciated. He could pay the Rockets better orders by retiring and using his contract as a filler for an upgrade somewhere else, because intially our plan was never intent with sura included since the injury. To all who think Sura is the missing piece, the answer to all our problems and/or going to come back 100%, boy you guys couldn't be any more wrong. Let's be realistic here, he hasn't played for 15 months, has had numerous surgies, quite old as it is, his recovery time is longer and harder to overcome. He's not going to warrant any rotational time, unless we are absolutely stupid, or he absolutely wows us and drills in every shot, has the same speed, etc. There's many ways it can be beneficial to the Rockets, but certainly one of them is NOT what some of guys think. Just wanted to clear that up, that's all.
Bob Sura at 50% > anyone on the Rockets roster not named Yao or Tracy. I'd take it. We need his toughness. I didn't expect to ever see him in a uniform again, but the only reason I can think of why they would hold a press conference today is that they're going to announce he's back. Go piss on somebody else's parade. I'd like to enjoy at least the illusion of this news as long as possible.
I am a Sura fan, and I think he has always brought heart, hustle and toughness to the Rox--something notoriously in short supply and I think that's what fans are looking forward to. Nobody said the guy is more athletic than T-Mac and taller than Yao... If Mac and Yao are in peak condition, we won't be the one needing a savior but we could always use the things that Sura brings...
Haha. Sura 50% is not better than a lot of our players, which includes..yes Juwan, Rafer, Luther, Shane, Kirk. So if you will take 50% Sura over those players, something needs to be done, seriously. Unless it's just favoritism.
I completely agree with you. That's why I am saying if he's 50% of what he is, I don't want Van Gundy to warrant him rotational time and cost us, I would like him to be a bench cheerleader, practice player that can really get us motivated and be a vocal leader. Teach some of the younger guys to develop a stronger mind. Agree?
The Rockets were a lot better with Sura in the line up than with out. The offense ran smoother and there was a great non stop hustle about the team that was only there with Sura on the floor. You can not measure it in stats but you could damn sure see it during the games when Sura was playing the point guard position for the Rockets. And yes there was a noticable drop off in the quality of play when Sura was not on the floor.
