Bobby Sura plays the game of Basketball the way we all wished we could play. Heart,Heart and more Heart without reguard to body or limbs or how he looks. In the Pro's if we are lucky we have one or two guys every 10 years who show this and we have one on the Rockets. I really hope we get to see him play in the near furture.
You don't read very well. I am a Rockets and Sura fan. My post actually supports HIM. He shouldn't have to prove anything to the med people. They should just let him come to camp like everyone else (and many unproven players) and let him see what he can do. They owe him that. As far as the Rockets mgmt goes. You guys sure give alot of credit where it isn't due. First they traded a legit top pick in the draft for a good but not great player (Battier). Who is solid but could have been acquired for alot less. Then they lost James and have appeared to replace him with an unproven (and inexperienced) European and a miniature (albeit huge hearted and talented) PG in JLucas. Snyder is a fill in at best. So as I see it, this off-season thus far has been a huge failure. But, I am a Rockets fan and I am hoping that they can pull off a trade that will result in improvement. I think Sura could help, even if just from the bench. But I doubt very seriously that he will be given any opportunity to play for this team. As far as my # of posts. You have to start somewhere. You once had 33 posts. I didn't know about this site until recently. Maybe one day I will have no life like you and just sit on my butt and make 1,000 posts a day just like you do. Give me a chance to be a loser too will ya?
If you had any inside information on the previous post, you would have clearly approached this more even handedly. I can't comment on any of your other posts, but that was just a piece of slander. You are calling out the Rox medical staff and Van Gundy for not counting on a guy who missed an entire season AFTER having corrective surgery and that being a guy who is 33-years old and a 11-year veteran? People around here are suggesting McGrady won't last another full season, but you think the Rox are obliged to plan on Sura contributing? I personally love Sura and think he would be a darn good complement to Alston because he is biggger, stronger, a better defender against more physical point guards, a very solid rebounder, and has a great assist/to ration. And, to he honest, I think the Rox ARE giving him every opportunity: Why else would they have not gone after Marcus Banks with the full MLE or traded yet for a Damon Jones when their TE would get him. We have been told Head is not ready to play the one, we know that Spanoulis and Lucas will not be ready this year, and we have not obtained another yet: This all screams out that we are giving Sura one more shot. But all you have done in the post is take an opportunity to bash management. Now, if you have inside info and this is going to happen, just step out and say so: I am sure we can sticky this thread and, if you right, then a thousand apologies are due.
It's not disrespectful to take a look at Sura's conditions in a workout. He missed an entire year due to surgery. So a REAL time checkout is in order to know how much he has recovered. An X-ray is not going to tell you how can he perform once he's back. It's responsible for the team and himself. If he can play no more, it's humiliating for him to get abused on the court.
Maybe the workout is more of a meeting where Sura runs a workout for other players and proves that he should be an assistant coach for the Rockets. Then the media announcement is that he is retiring as a player, but immediately going into coaching for the Rox.
Yes, trading for players who are on the Dream Team is easy. They're like fish in the sea... so many of them. . . . . and.... You'd be surprised how quickly this can happen. Welcome to Clutch's site. He let's us connect via the internet.
The Rox bring in pre-draft players, free agents, etc. for workouts all the time as evaluation. This is no different. He deserves at least that much. The press conference is just part of the marketing machine. Any off season time to get free press is gravy, nothing less... Talk about this, promote that, get people's minds on basketball and off the Astros and the pending football season.
I hope Sura can return ,but more than that I wan't a clear answer. Can he play or not. I love the guy ,but I don't want him taking a roster spot all year. What is the deal with his salary if he retires?
Hmm... you know its funny... but... last time I checked 2.11 posts per day (You) is greater than 1.87 posts per day (BigM)... I never was very good with math though...
JVG loves Sura and if he comes back this season and is able to play to the level he did two yrs. ago---- Clutch City Baby!
Sura is a decent player but everytime i see/think of him I remember him b*tching about the Rocket's playign Slim Shady while he was at the foul line *that* was wimpy Rocket River
I imagine this is as much a PR move as any. The Rockets fans are a little weary after last season's injury fest. Get Sura out there to show he's healthy and effective and it helps quell the storm in Houston after losing James to the Twolves, and Gay & Swift to the Griz.
