During my favorite Rocket season in the last ten years, Sura was my hero. No TMac, talentwise, but pure guts and hustle. Great rebounder. The heart and soul of the most entertaining Rocket's team in a decade. I think Sura would play on one leg, but I can't imagine in my wildest dreams a real comeback. This is a retirement announcement, an insurance claim, or some kind of farewell. Bob, I loved seeing you play, thanks for some great memories. You are my kind of basketball player. I was never as good as you, but that is the way I played the game (years ago): mad and mean. Loved every minute. They told me to put a body on somebody, and I gladly obliged. You will forever be one of my all time favorite Rockets.
If he could just practice with us, or even have a spot on the roster but play very limited minutes, that'll be a boost. Alone, his influence can play a lot. I just hope Kirk and Bob don't get jawing at each other.
Now in the event that Sura does return at a pre-injury level, I will go nuts. My assessment of the upcoming season will improve by lightyears. If Sura can "really" play like he used to, oh my word. No, I am not even going to entertain that thought. I will wait for a report, and, even then, seeing is believing in this case.
OMG, I'm so sad. This is a retirement announcement folks. My favorite rocket is riding off into the sunset. I can understand why people are optimistic. Sura is exciting to watch and a pretty tough guy; everyone wants him back. But he just started practicing again. CD called it a "wait and see" situation. Well they haven't exactly done a lot of waiting, which means....they know. Adios Bobby! The memories were great.
Are you kidding me. These two have all the makings of a "Buddy Comedy" tag-team. One's white, the other's black. One's made racist jokes on the other guy's color. One's tough and no-nonsense, the other is a bit loopy. It's Lethal Weapon 5, fercrissakes. I'd love to see the two of these guys on the court at the same time. The opponents wouldn't know what hit them. Here's hoping Sura still has something left in the tank.
I agree. I hope Sura gets back into playing shape and then knocks someone out with an elbow (preferably a Mav) a month or two before the playoffs. That way he'll be fresh for the offseason.
It'll give us spunk and attitude on the court. I just hope Kirk keeps his cools, he's a little erratic and outspoken at times, not MJ level or Artest, but it could be irritating. Anyways, this really opens up more guard suitors, if he does indeed come, cause Marcus left for Vassilis to come in. Now our PF situation, will Luther be gone with Juwan for a PF, I see a team taking Juwan only if we are giving Luther, and still maybe not, however Al Harrington is off the market to Indiana now as well. So we'll see what happens at PF.
Incorrect. Sura has been working out the past 2 months. He's been running and what not since earlier this month.
Maybe he'll be going one-on-one with Jay Williams, winner gets to keep his career. Hey, seriously - maybe this will let things progress definitively with - or without BS. (And other decisions/plans can fall into place.)
I don't know if it's a retirement announcement and I hope not because a healthy Sura would be a great addition to this team. But the last report I am aware of was from the Chronicle, on JULY 12, in which they announced he had just stepped on the court for the first time. It didn't sound like at that time he was doing more than just some basic drills and still had a long way to go. Which makes this workout the Rockets attempt to give him 1 more shot to show them that they shouldn't file an Insurance claim on his injury and forced retirement. Which they have probably already determined and are prepared announce his retirement unless he proves beyond a doubt that he can return. Now if that is not to case and he had been working out hard before he stepped on the court for the first time than maybe he could have already advanced to where they ready to announce his miraculous recovery in only one week. Seems highly doubtful and if that was they case wouldn't they at least wait until he had made alot more progress and really had fully recovered. So me feeling is he is retiring (probable) or he has made a miraculous recover and they are announcing the miracle (doubtful). I would love to be wrong let's hope I am.
No, not that I know of, that's what makes this so strange. Maybe the Rockets feel he's ready and want to want to make a big deal of it, especially after the slow start to the off season?
I don't think a workout is required if you already know you're not ready to play. That's why I think they'll be announcing that he's coming back.
