From what I remember, he is a very good defender. In one of the games against Houston, he was able to stay in front of Cuttino, and was physical enough to keep him from posting up. If he's quick enough to stop point guards from lighting us up, he'll be a valuable contributor.

Totals are first, per 40 minutes in parenthesis

    Bob Sura:
    Minutes: 20.8
    Points: 7.5 (14.4)
    Rebounds: 4.10 (7.9)
    Assists: 2.9 (5.6)
    Turnovers: 1.3 (2.5)
    Basketball IQ: 120

    Francis:
    Minutes: 40.4
    Points: 16.6 (16.4)
    Rebounds: 5.5 (5.4)
    Assists: 6.3 (6.2)
    Turnovers: 3.7 (3.7)
    Basketball IQ: 90

    Difference per 40 minutes:
    Points: -2.0
    Rebounds: +2.5
    Assists: -.6
    Turnovers: -1.2
    Basketball IQ: +30

If Bob Sura can produce like he did last year (and we know that he can increase his numbers with more minutes, because he did it last year after moving to Atlanta) we are in great shape. I'm super excited because not only do the stats look great, he can run a fast break and he is a good defender at 6'-5".

Fantastic move! Another athletic, slashing player and a scorer and ball-handler. Definitely can use that! And the Rockets give him a multi-year deal and instead of being fat and happy he works his @ss off to get back. Sura is a MAN.

I knew someone was going to post this. Nobody called Sura the "savior" of the Rockets. And the good Sura will give the Rockets is FAR better then the bad.

woo, that is really a good news which makes me feel better when I heard TMac was injured tonight. In 3 weeks, I am quite sure the whole team will have better improvment and chemistry, and Sura will move the Rockets one more step forward :)

I just wish in 3 weeks, he doesn't show he's a turnover prone + low IQ player + ballhog whom we'd be dream and screaming to trade for Hinrich. ;)

Bob Sura is in same situation like Piatkoski was. sura will come into the game after the injury and he would suck and JVG will be forced to put him on bench just like Erick

I agree that we shouldn't expect a *whole* lot.

Ever since we signed everyone in the offseason, I've posted hoping Ward would start...and I have stood by that all the way. Sura will be a very solid backup to the 1, 2, and 3. Especially if you have TMac bringing the ball up even more when Sura is at the "1". He (Sura) is good at running the break, but not that great in a halfcourt set (at the 1 spot).

    I say you give him 7 mins of Ward's time, 5 of Lue's, 7 of JJ's, 4 of TMac's, and 4 of Boki's. That's a solid 27 mins off the bench that helps everyone.

The similarities between Piatkowski and Sura begin and end with their injuries. Pike was signed to come off of the bench to shoot 3's. All indications are that Sura was going to be the starting PG. Or at worse, play 30+ mpg at PG & SG. Further, Piatkowski was not a strong on the ball defender. Sura is a much better on the ball defender and has more footspeed to be a better help defender. Lastly, Sura will benefit greatly when he is on the weakside and TMac and Yao are strongside. He is much more capable at driving to the basket than Pike and making teams pay for doubling.

Not the CWard I've watched. he's the guy who should be getting 15 mins (and Lue none would be fine by me).

This is Great, Great news! I am very excited to hear this. Good to see how SERIOUS Sura is taking his rehad to get back. Of course knowing he has a serious shot to be the starting PG is good motivation. Having a healthy Sura will be very key for this team. It adds depth and will allow JJ and Tmac more rest. Plus Sura is one of the few players that can create his own shot and penetrate to create shots for others.

Who can say. But the BIG difference is that all Pike could do is shoot. So if his shot was off he was useless. Sura alteast is a much better defender and can dribble/penetrate to create shots for others. So he doesnt have to score to be effective in the game which is a big difference.

Plus, why should Memphis be the only team who has a blond-headed white guy playing the point? :)

Great news to hear. I was afraid he might be gone or ineffective for the year. I'm not as excited as others to have him starting right when he gets back though. I'd prefer him to backup the 1,2,3 and work his way into the starting pg spot, which shouldn't take long if he can shake off the rust.

The only thing I heard was when JVG was on SportRadio 610 Wednesday. He said Sura had a good report with his doctors and that they will be working him back slowly.
