WHY does everyone persist that Portland is going to dump Fernandez? They are a team TOTALLY on the rise ... wake up & smell the Sizzlean, people. Good christ. Ain't gonna happen. Giving up Shane, Carl, & T-Mac is not worth Amare, & a useless Richardson. . . . . . . . . But then again, Yao & is crinkle foot isn't worth a damn thing, so maybe we should just blow it up.
Why dont we just do these deals seperately? Battier for Fernandez, and then McGrady and Landry swap? That way, we end up w/ Fernandez. It is better for us...
Also of course Amar'e is going to say he wants to stay in PHX. He's not a dummy, not many players just flat out and say "Yeah i'm gone! Peace out, didn't like this place too much." because if they are staying they have to deal with the fans (Boozer) I think he'd resign here, it said he'd resign with a team that has a future...um the Rockets right now look to have a better future than the Suns.
You'd be happy if the Rockets gave Amare a $20M per year extension for 5-6 years? That's what it's going to take.
I don't understand the posters here are Clutchfans, first they brag about bringin amare or bosh in 2010 then when we are given the opportunity for a trade everyone goes dull and dumb. A good trade for all three teams
honestly i don't get it........why would portland trade Fernandez? he was their most consistent player in the playoffs besides Roy. I'd take fernandez all day.
Shane is gone before the end of the summer. The Ariza signing all but guarantees that since both guys have to play the SF. I think the Rockets realize Ariza can potentially match or exceed the contributions Shane brought. They also realize Battier is now recognized by the league, media and probably the fans as the best Kobe defender in the league. His value is higher now than it has been for the last 5+ years if not his entire career. I think Carl is the other player with value the Rockets are willing to let go so it makes perfect sense to send a Tmac/Battier/Landry package out in order to bring in an All Star and another quality rotation player. As much as I dislike Amare and J-Rich's attitude (and lack of defense) the talent the Rockets would bring in is worth the move at this point.
Did anyone actually HEAR this rumor on 610? Who was on the air? Where did they say the rumor came from? I'm not convinced Marc Vandemeer is in any way credible enough to have a 20-page thread started over his Rockets BS.
I'm going to pretend this is real, for discussion's sake: Phoenix does not love Jason Richardson at $13M this year and $14M next. He's an extremely replaceable 16ppg wing that is well overpaid by an owner that is a miser. Phoenix does love Steve Nash because he keeps the team marketable and the fanbase would tear up their tickets if he were moved. Phoenix knows they need to move Amare soon, because Amare is dead set on receiving a max extension and they have no intention of giving him one. His injuries, defensive apathy, and locker room issues all mount against him. With the lux tax maybe dropping as low as $63M next year, Sarver's going to be even more intent on losing his salary albatrosses. Portland likes Battier, we all love Battier, but I'm okay with moving him to a semi-contender. No need to put him through a rebuilding year when he's only got so many years left. If you love somebody, set them free (free, free, set them free). Getting him in return for a guy that wants out anyway is a steal for them. Phoenix clears out their payroll in advance of 2010. We get Amare, at the price of having to also take back Richardson (and lose Battier). I think the team was already expecting to trade Battier based on their offseason moves. Also, Battier is a guy that has to feed off of others for his offense. That's not happening this year. Landry, I don't think we'd really miss. He's got a lot of fans on the board, and he does have occasional 'wow' games - but he was very inconsistent last year, disappearing for games at a time. We'll find another 6-6 PF somehow, someway. The big thing is we address the major size issue we have in the frontcourt. Scola (6-10) with Landry and Hayes (6-7 on their best days) doesn't work. Not without a pair of 6-11 guys at the 5. I'm far from ready to expect even 12 mpg from Dorsey at this point. I'm not a big Amare fan, but his presence at the 5 would give us a major boost. We wouldn't be contenders, but a winning season would be more than achievable, and this would be a team structured in a way that Yao could rejoin it smoothly. Amare can play at the 4 or 5, and would make it feasible to limit Yao's minutes to 30 mpg or less.
when did JRich become useless? Does anyone even know his stats... and his age? why does everyone think he's old...
I'd rather trade Battier straight up for Fernandez, then try to sign either Amare or Bosh in the offseason. Richardson's ok, but his contract is not very attractive.
Forgetting the validity of this rumor all together because I have no clue how true this is, but I can see them trading Fernandez to get a guy like Battier. Shane would fit them VERY well. First of all, Battier would do everything that Fernandez does in that offense... sit at the 3 pt. line and space the floor for Roy. Sure, Fernandez can do more individually offensively than Battier, but he is really just a spot up shooter for them. Secondly, they would get a MUCH needed perimeter defender which they've been looking for for a couple of years now. They've hoped that Outlaw could develop into that, and he has not.
