I would absolutely hate to lose Shane to the Blazers. That would really suck and come back to bite us in a very bad way. Other than that, I wouldn't mind the trade. Ugh. I can't even bear to think of watching Shane against us side-by-side with Brandon Roy. Talk about perimeter domination.
He expires and they risk losing him for nothing. Amare is a top level PF in the NBA. Tim Duncan, Garnett, those guys are solidly above him but those guys are also grizzled vets. Bosh and Jefferson and Amare...these are the PFs I think that have a shot at dominating the position for the next 5 years or so (even if they play C, they are still PFs) I think people forget how good he's been because he had a serious injury this season. It's sort of like Shawne Merrimen missing a year and he's not a top LB anymore? I think people just forget. Also Tmac same situation. You either trade the guy or lose him for cap space.
Well, we'd be able to offer him what he wants if he has a good season and yeah. Amare cares about his money, that's what he's shown and he'd be on a pretty good team AND Yao would possibly(hopefully ) be coming back.
No, it is not the same. Tmac's salary will be paid by insurance company till mid-season. The rockets can save money for themselves.
Are you serious? This is an unbelievable trade for us. TMac is an insured expiring contract. That's all he is to this team. If you think Houston has any intention fo resigning him, then you obviously don't follow the team. I like Landry, but he's certainly no deal breaker. Currently he's our backup 4. Battier's place is on a different team. Ariza was signed to replace him. Provided he's healthy (all reports indicate he is), Amare for all three of those guys would be a great deal. JRich fills our gaping hole at SG for a few years. Not to mention this teams remains contenders with young pieces still in place. The only youth you give up is Landry , and his age differes from Amare by only 1 year. I can't understand how anyone could not like this deal.
The lower of the salary cap STRONGLY favors the team resigning the FA. So if we trade for him, then the answer is yes.
The Rockets aren't looking to save that money. There's really no point. They are going to take the best available deal (whenever it becomes available) for TMac. I don't think that's any secret
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2009/07/08/20090708sunsonline.html That's an extension starting at $19.5M in the first year.
With the expected lowered cap, the Knicks won't have money to sign him. They are only going to have room to sign one of the superstars...
