Maybe nowadays GMs don't actually do anything anymore- they just bounce around random nba forums around the league looking for an idea they like, and then they try to make it happen. Could you see Morey calling the Suns and saying 'hey, just read this online, and its a 4 star thread thats incredibly hot right now, and it works out on ESPN trade machine! that means its gotta be a good deal!' Hey... crazier things have happened.
Probably because the original poster claimed that "Ok this just a rumor I heard on 610 this morning but they said it was from a credible source and the Rockets had discussed this trade with other GMs involved." The OP flat out says that this is credible info, so people sort of ran with it, while the thread last night was pretty much debunked on the first page.
In all seriousness, I would be willing to be that the Rockets have rosters, salaries, terms, etc. for every player under contract in the NBA and their internal stat ratings on every NBA quality player in and out of the league and have already compiled a cube of all potential trades that are legal under the CBA correlated to statistical plus/minus for the quality of players on the roster. They have a legion of zombied computers in China that hijak accounts and periodically post random trade rumors on fan sites throughout the league.
...reminds me of the joke Hollinger made to Morey that he's lucky the NBA doesn't put a salary cap on his stats guys.
Trading one injury prone max contract superstar for another injury prone max contract superstar, although younger, doesn't sound like a good idea to me. If we trade TMac and then give another player a max contract, I hope it's someone who will play and not sit on the bench in a suit. We already have one of those in Yao who I'm praying gets better.
Please! Morey! Don't do this. This is horrible! If we can get Rudy Fernandez, I 20% agree. If not, I 100% disagree this could be a good move. Amare Stoudemire will not be compatable with Yao, just like he is not compatable with O'Neal. And he always complains his teammates, coach, and manager. With SToudemire in, Yao will absolute leave next year. I would rather wait for one year if we cann't find a good C for next season. No matter how much TMac and Yao can recover, we will have enough flexability to make us a contender soon. But Stoudemire has 2 year big contract left. And with his big contract, we cann't rebuild immediately. Bringing him in is the most terrible thing I can image for Rockets.
I believe, even though it seems this thread may not be entirely credible, that the 16-pagedness of this thread shows the desperation of some to acquire Amare and make us a contender. I'm just sayin...
Stoudemire may complain about not being the first option but he will definitely fit in with Yao on the floor. Teams trying to double Yao will get destroyed by Amare operating in the high post. Unlike Scola he doesn't have to settle for the jumper, one quick powerful swoop into the post and its a dunk or quick dish back to Yao. Stoudemire could become the focal point of the offense. Weakside blocks, offensive rebounds, Amare would fill so many holes.
Yes, Yao cann't play next year, but we can rebuild soon since we will have huge salary space for free agent. We cann't rebuild if Morey bring Stoudemire in. You think Stoudemire and Brooks can bring us a title.
just so you know landry is only 9 months younger then amare. not saying i want the trade to go down but they are pretty much the same age.
Yao can be the second option, Stoudmire is better now anyways. Amare's contract is pretty good anyways, he can even walk at the end of this season, so it is pretty much like turning Tmac into a 20/10 guy.
Well, since Yao and TMac will leave, he will be the first option. I just cann't see any hope of championship with this roster. Jason Richardson also have a big contract. If we want to rebuild, why rebuild in 2011 but not 2010.
Amare is part of the rebuilding process as he's only 27 when next season begins. He would be one of the players on the short list as FA targets in the 2010 class. He's as good as Joe Johnson or Bosh, the other two big time potential signings for the team if they choose to go that route. Therefore, why not get him now, rather than fight the rest of the league hoping to land one of them after the season. Also, you should view whatever you get from Yao two years from now as a bonus, if you get anything at all. Rebuilding takes time.
