there's no guarantee that amare will sign an extension with us either and he'll want a max contract. it's not the "contenders" logic. i think we can wait a year and see how yao's status turn out before we commit a lot of money to certain players.
Me neither man. People are overrating Landry too like he's a extra hot prospect. Amare is one year older than Landry and has made 4 All-star appearances and All-NBA appearance, and ROY in his 7yr career(HS). And some of us are afraid of splitting up Scolandry? Scomare would be a better combination, both highly-skilled players. Tmac is over the wall, we all know that. Battier has a few good years left, but on a rebuilding team that has Ariza...he has little purpose other than being a leader and good teacher. Then saying Jrich getting him is a bad thing? He's a more than solid player and he's not a ball hog like Crawford. He's better than Wafer and better than Ariza at scoring the ball. He's far from a bad player, his contract may be bad, but he's still a starting SG on most teams who don't have a all-star in that spot.
There is no gaurantee for anything. There is no guarantee Yao will ever play as a Rocket anymore, he can opt out 2010 also. Truth is, you have a better shot at resigning players than signing new players, especially since all teams have been warned that the Cap could take a hit, that makes it even more less likely for these stars to switch teams. A lot of the big players in the NBA switch teams through trades and not FA. The team that has these players can always offer the largest deal and have the advantage of the player living in that area and making friends within the organization and having the organization being built around them. How are we so sure Bosh, Wade, etc is going to want to come here....even Joe Johnson? What if the Hawks make the ECF somehow? You'd think he'd be running to a team that prbly has no Yao or anything?
I think you are underrating Battier and what he brings to this team. He is the veteran leader, even when T-Mac was playing. Shane is a guy you want as your team captain. Who is going to step in and become that leader on team as young and inexperienced as the one we will have?

I think the numbers Shane posted last season shows a decline in his game. Even his defense wasn't as good as in years past. Morey is rightfully trying to sell high. With Yao out, I don't think we can put up with any more 0 point games.
I read from chron.com that he wanted to sign a five year deal first (around 20 M/per year) before joined new team. I hope that this was not true, so we have him come to play, then give him a max later if everything works out.
Since we are no longer a championship contender at the moment, we owe it to Battier to move him to a contender. Morey HAS to make the Amare trade, I would like barbosa to come along in any such deal, but Richardson will do Imagine this fastbreak: Brooks Barbosa (possibly) Ariza Scola Stoudamire
Jason Richardson has a bad contract, but he is an outstanding player. He is the absolute perfect fit if Yao ever comes back. He is an outstanding shooter.
He definitely wants to sign an extension, but I don't think he has a no trade clause or anything. If he gets traded, he gets traded.
yeah it's just that the receiving team wants his extension worked out (or GS does at least) to guarantee he is worth the trade.. but earlier at least, Amare wasn't willing to commit to an extension w/the Warriors
1) I'm kind of surprised to see DM overpay JRich, but this year doesn't matter, and I guess we can afford it for one additional year. Trading Shane at the top of his value is very DM, though. 2) The lowering of the cap is very interesting. Strategically, if you wait for 2010, that takes what, $5M out of your picture? You're better off setting your big team salary this year. That's another reason for us to spend the MLE this year, even if we don't expect to compete until next year. 3) Competing with the Spurs and Lakers (and umm, Dallas)? We aren't supposed to be able to do that until Yao comes back (or we replace him with another star). Look at this trade, plus Yao. Maybe we S&T Amare that 2nd year. 4) If Amare gets injured, we send some players down to the NBDL and tank the best we can. Next year, we S&T Amare for somebody else. 5) What one guy would we then use the MLE on? A backup 2/3? That could work, but I'd really rather we trade two guys for an $8M player, and use the MLE to replace the better piece we gave up in that deal. For instance, trade Scola and Lowry for a hot-shot PG, then use the MLE to get another PF, hopefully one with some size. We'd have Hayes and, I guess, Dorsey to back up the 4. 6) BTW, is it a goal of ours to be less injury-prone? It's hard to tell...
So funny story, yesterday I was especially depressed about how grim our 2009 looks and the apparent departure of Battier with the arrival of Ariza. I concocted this trade on the trade machine and sent it off to Adam Wexler at the night shift on 610 am. Heres the email: So.... Brooks /Lowry/barry J-Rich/J taylor/white Ariza/budinger Scola/hayes/dorsey Amare/yao/cook that is one bad bench ( am i forgetting somebody?) but that seems like a good , fun uptempo starting group. But if nash couldnt win with that kind of team, can the rockets do better with Brooks??? it's be tough to pass up, b/c if yao ever got healthy - i'd like their chances. Shortly thereafter a poster on this board claimed his brothers dad heard on espn that this trade was being discussed. The thread was quickly locked and forgotten. So today it appears to have been rehashed. So either Morey listens to 610 and immediatley called 610 and I am the new nostradamus or we have a clear cut cas study about how internet rumors spiral out of control.
Well, now I got it, he has not control, we can still get him without an extension, then I will feel much better for the trade if there is one.
Nice job creating a reasonable deal for all 3 parties involved though perhaps you should have mentioned this earlier to stop the speculation.
610 should have mentioned it earlier. Although they probably did, but if you tune in late you probably don't hear the disclaimer. I heard the rumor yesterday around 7 on 610 and laughed because I thought to myself people tuning in at this moment will here "the Rockets get Amare for..." and assume its breaking news.
