You know, we could also S/T Clark for a 2nd rounder and what's left of the TE, if Colangelo is willing to deal... I'd rather just trade for Deke, but it's a possibility.

Good point. The one thing JVG did, that Rudy was loath to do, was play Cato at the 4, and as a freakin' starter. That was both a bold move and a searing indictment on the quality of our people at the 4 spot. (no kidding!) Cato was better than even the folks who thought he should get a shot at being a PF (out of necessity), like yours truly, ever dreamed. But Kelvin's game at the 4 had holes you could drive a truck through, on the offensive side. One thing he could do, however, was motor his butt down the court and get into position. (if he remembered where that was, which he got better at) Clark, if healthy, can motor... Deke can plod.

I was hoping we could get a big, along with Daniels, from Seattle, but it may turn out that these two are what we have to choose from. (I've not been convinced of that, yet) If it's between a healthy Clark, on a short, cheap contract that requires him to bust his tail to earn something better, or a old, slow, but solid former stud defensive center, who is not happy coming off the bench for 15 minutes a game and can't swing to the 4 if matchups dictate it... I lean towards Clark. And, if Clark were to pan out, he's young and could be signed to a decent contract later that he could live with. If he "can't live" with what we offered, then it's adios, which we would be doing with Deke after a similar time frame anyway. Deke doesn't have much left in the tank.

Frankly, I wish we were seriously looking at better options, but there's not much left out there... that I'm aware of, anyway.

NIKEstrad, I sure have been enjoying your posts lately. Shoot, there have been some excellent stuff to read in here recently. What's up with that?? ;)

See my post. I can guarantee you his rights were renounced, and Phoenix doesn't have enough space to sign him to a significant contract. They don't have any space, as far as I'm aware of.

As for the off-court issues...www.sltrib.com/2003/Aug/08062003/sports/81693.asp]Article when the Jazz Acquired Clark[/URL]

On why the Kings traded him..."I don't think we'd be sitting here having this conversation if there were no luxury tax," O'Connor said. "I'm confident they didn't want to let [Clark] go. . . . But it became an economic situation after they signed Brad Miller."

On off court issues... Asked about Clark's past, O'Connor shrugged and said, "There have been no problems, based on the past year. We did a lot of homework on him and, last year, he was not late, he had no problems with the coaches and he played in 80 games."

The mar1juana charges on him were dropped. If Jerry Sloan was willing to take this guy, why wouldn't Van Gundy?

Getting Mutumbo is even more important now for the Rockets because Dallas has picked up Dampier. We need good defense and rebounding,as well as 6-7 points a game. I feel that he can do a fairly good job despite his age.

NIKEstrad, I don't know what the Suns' salary space is like but according to the East Valley Tribune they are looking at Scott Williams and possibly another journeyman center.
I'm sorry I don't know how to provide a link.

You can always sign guys to the league minimum. And the fact that they are looking at Scott Williams and "another journeyman center" would indicate they probably have less than the 1.6 mill LLE exception.
