This would pretty much solidify a HUGE fanbase for the Texans. Ricky and VY in the same backfield would be scary.
I would hate to draft Young and sit him on the pine. I want to watch him on the field, win or lose. Watching him with the ball is too much fun...I want him to play.
Thanks for the update mogrod. Very good job. I'm also on the fence about Bush or Young. great arguments can be made for both. It's like choosing between two supermodels At least this year, the Texans won't be debating over Alex Smith, Ronnie Brown, Benson and whoever. I think we've hit the jackpot. Perhaps there's a light at the end of this year's embarrasment and disapointment. Bush, Young and Line Art will always be connected -- Heisman, Rose Bowl, and now the Draft. Crazy
I would do that deal except that the pick should come from Miami. QBs are more rare and Ricky is a bit of an unpredictable flake.
My stance on not drafting Young still stands but if we can get Ricky and a 2nd (or even a 3rd rounder) for Carr I would do it. "Why the quick change of heart, Sted?" Not a quick change of heart FOR Young, but for moving Carr. Imagine having Williams AND DD. That's the one-two punch that a lot of teams run nowadays. Denver, Pittsburgh, KC, etc. You have one RB that is fast and agile enough to gets you big yardage and you have one RB that loves to run straight through the D-line. That's something that would intrigue me. A running game like that would masquerade some (not all) of the offensive line woes. And this is the kind of workload that would suit the current Ricky--sharing duties and not much of the workload. Imagine having split backs and then throw Andre Johnson into the mix.....and THEN having Vince behind center. It'd be almost like replicating the Atlanta Falcons team but with WR that Atlanta is sorely lacking.
I think that is just a message board rumor. Here's the link to the thread http://www.houstonprofootball.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=5264
What better circumstances for VY to go pro when you consider the draft order: <b>1. Houston</b>, 2. New Orleans, <b>3. Tennessee</b>? The Houston connection is for certain. The Tennesse McNair Affair is for real. Anybody know how Vince would feel about NOLA/San Antonio/LA? Yeah, these three could be there next year as well but that is no certainty.
If Young comes out, he's not going to make it to pick #3. The Saints need to sell tickets, too, and Young has probably jumped over ML....for now. The Titans will pick Leinhart and three years later, when Cutler is kicking ass in the NFL, they will be saying "why didnt we draft the Vandy kid over this prima donna from Southern Cal?"
Let's assume Carr can play for a coach as intensive as Saban. If true, Saban will develop him and Carr will succeed. Meanwhile, Bush becomes a superstar. What you have to compare is a successful Carr plus a superstar Bush vs. a potential superstar in VY. It's gonna take VY time to develop in the NFL just like it did in college. Bush will be an instant hit like most top notch running backs. Ricky Williams plus a "condititional" rounder isn't good enough. I want no part of him. Could we get a late 1st round or early 2nd round pick for Carr? My gut feeling still says take Reggie Bush. A new coach could turn David Carr around big time.
What if the draft pick was Miami's 2nd round draft pick? That's what I think it would be if this did went down. We, the fans in Houston, deeply undervalue Carr's stock in this league because we've seen so much of him. I'm pretty sure teams around the league have a better, more optimistic outlook of Carr because they'll blame the offensive line/schemes/coaching instead of him. I would do this trade because I simply have given up on Carr. I was on the bandwagon for the last 4 years and have been a huge supporter of him but this last year has some telling signs. I understand the offensive line has been horrible throughout Carr's existence and this is the the primary reason I have come to this conclusion: Carr's mentality has been scarred for good. There have been numerous times throughout this year where Carr has had adequate time in the pocket and would just hold the ball too long. And sometimes when he does have time, he'll panic, trash the play and start running. I just think that he needs a fresh start on a new team. And concerning Ricky, the one thing i'm going to look at throughout his career is last season. He came back under a lot of criticism and to me, he passed with flying colors. He didn't complain about being the #2 back behind Ronnie Brown. He didn't complain about the pay. He just went out and played hard. He had 270 yards rushing the last 2 games and I feel that if given the opportunity to be a feature back again, he is definitely an upgrade over DD. The big thing here is that he's making the league minimum the next 2 years and he's publicy said that he's okay with that. I feel bad for Carr because he's given his all for this team. If management wasn't so bad the last 4 years, i'm pretty sure we wouldn't be even be discussing Vince Young or Reggie Bush, but we are. Unfortunately, it's time to cut the cord. Ricky and a 2nd is good enough for me.
Ricky Williams + Pick isn't good enough for Carr? I think we're forgetting about some pretty important factors. 1. David Carr didn't have a good year by any means, sure there are a bunch of reasons for this, but the bottom line is that he took a pretty big step back from last season. 2. Whoever takes him is going to have to pay him that 8M extension he is due.
I heard the end of McClain's segment and he said he was talking to one scout who was most impressed by the poise in the pocket. Vince may need to work on his passing but not his awareness in the pocket. Its really top notch.
At the same time, by absorbing the the bonus money of the contract, it may make Carr more lucrative to other teams because the other team doesn't have to worry about contract extension or pay him the f-tag figure (probably 10+ mil this year). I'm not too sure if the contract extension will rule out the possibility of trading Carr. I think the extension is a logical thing to do for either both keeping and trading Carr.
