I think with regard to Yao, people are tired of seeing him get pushed around in the paint like a little b****. They're tired of him fumbling passes that hit him right in the hands. They're tired of nobody type players driving into him, drawing the foul, and making the shot as a bewildered Yao looks on not understanding what he did wrong. For someone who supposedly understands the game well he makes way too many mistakes on the floor from simple body positioning to understanding angles to the basket. It seems to be getting worse too. Tracy's three attempt was stupid but Yao isn't a significant factor in the game unless we run plays for him and set the entire offense around him.
yep, you're absolutely right. sometimes I worry that the hearing trouble he has is partially to blame. either way, he should know better by now.
Not to be mean, but Yao really comes off looking like a simpleton, clumsy oaf A LOT. Sometimes I'll watch a game with family members that hardly ever watch basketball. And even they'll point out how clueless Yao looks at times. All I can say in response is, "Well, yeah. But trust me, he's actually a really good player." Slow reflexes, not being at eye level with most of the action, and being deaf in one ear I guess can make a player look really silly.
It seemed like in your original post you were blaming TMAC and defending Yao more so than not. After watching that entire game, just that one game, how can you not blame Yao. We spend half our time blaming TMAC and Artest, but lets be honest, Yao is anything but consistent, and last night he was like a zombie trying to catch a ball. If I was a caller, I'd have dogged the crap out of Yao. Ya he gets dunked on. You know what, if he throws a couple people to the floor like Shaq does, I guarantee you they wont come back in on him. You think anyone has ever dunked on Shaq like that in his entire career, then hang on the rim and show boat?? I dont care that Yao gets dunked on every now and then, but come on. Show that you CARE that you just got owned. I would like Yao to be more like Shaq, not like Sean friggin Bradley !!! I'm glad I didnt call last night
lol, I know. it sucks. he really just...ugh...he doesn't even know it I don't think. it is the things he does that make him look so clumsy.
I disagree with you. You could Blame Yao for A LOT last night. -He missed an easy alley oop -He still has butterfingers. Can't catch a pass. -Most of the times they took the ball from Yao, its all ball. It's so easy to strip the ball from Yao. -He keeps waiting for the double team instead of pulling up to shoot -Still tries to dribble past the double team = turnover -He missed the free throw at the end -The one play where Yao grabbed the rebound, and threw it right to the Philly player, resulting in a layup. He also bobbled a rebound that went behind his head, resulting in a layup. -Bunch of layups and dunks by Philly... Where was Yao?
I remember this play clearly too. But I think this was more of a Rafer problem than a Yao problem as when he passed the ball. Yao had basically just received the pass from Rafer and the weakside defender took it from him. The weakside defender basically almost caught the ball as Rafer passed it to Yao. Rafer should have waited a bit more before he did the pass on that particular possession to force the weakside to either stay committed to doubling Yao without the ball or leaving to defend his man.
Everyone needs to quit freaking out. Ron Ron and Tmac have just gotten back on the court. Ron is still hurting, and TMAC is just getting into his groove. Yao has been out for two games and it showed. We saw flashes that he's doing better. Does that make it all fixed? no. You could lay some of it on the plays/subs that the coaching staff is making... but it's all relative. It's like the 3rd game they've played together all year. If this happened in the first week of the season everyone would be like "Well, give it time." So I say to you... quit freaking out. Give it time. Hope everyone stays healthy, and we get some consistency in the rotation, and they will regain their confidence, regain some defensive prowess, and remember how to close out games.
This is exactly what happens with my wife. She is just now getting into basketball and she keeps asking, "Why does Yao play? All he does is fall down." Or she says, "He must be embarrassed." quite a bit. "Well, babe, he's actually pretty good..."
Yao did play like crap last night, especially on the offensive end, but the layups and dunks by Philly last night were not the fault of Yao. That was the weak perimeter defense that this team has been playing this year. Battier is a step slow this year, McGrady has been his usual disinterested self on defense, Rafer basically lets his man drive right on by. Our coach needs to get our guards/sf to start playing D again or this season will be useless, as our offense definitely is not going to win games for us.
dude mcgrady played good on defense...were you watching the game... funny how nobody talks about the great D he had on iggy with 5 secs left
wow read the post. you pulled out the first sentence and then based your entire post on that? you're a joke kid. maybe you should read a little more and post a little less.
Excuses, excuses, excuses..... but yeah, it's Houston... they should exchange the name of this team. How about Houston Excuses?
thank you! if we wanna blame ron ron and tmac after some L we have to do the same thing with yao or just shut up about every L
you're right. he should lay someone out. the problem is...he is never going to. he is who he is. he isn't going to change and all of a sudden start flattening people. he is going to get jammed on, period. it is embarassing as hell as a fan and impossible to defend (verbally), but it is what it is. you still can't blame everytime someone dunks on yao ON yao. it is just as much the fault of the player who beat him to get in the paint in the first place.
ANd who can forget that jump ball, where Yao forgot to even jump. Mercifully, the refs allowed a redo. And all this happened IN ONE GAME. I mean, if I wasn't a Rockets fan tearing my hair out during all of this, I'd find it comical.
