These Rockets may not be a very good basketball team, but a least all the drama is entertaining.

I just think that Francis was thinking with the wrong brain ...

I could imagine ... Beyonce calls him up, and says she's at the airport to see the Super Bowl, and would he pick her up, because she wants to see him. Steve says, "Well, I am just on my way to the airport myself. I'd love to see you. So, they meet up, and says, "Can you take me to the Super Bowl?" He says, "O baby, I can't. My coach is gone friggin nuts, and scheduled our flight to Phoenix during the Super Bowl." She says, "You mean you wouldn't skip a little ole flight, just for me?" She whispers softly in his ear, "This is our night, baby." Well, the blood went from one brain to the other, and he says, "For you, baby, I'd do anything..."

Stevie's thinking, that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity! (Hey, wouldn't you? Have you seen or heard Beyonce?)

He drives her to the Super Bowl, and the whole way, she is flirting with him, and whispering various possibilities that start driving him wild. When they get to the parking lot, she says, "we don't need to go in just now, do we?" Stevie gets flushed with excitement. The "night" has arrived. Things are getting steamy, when his cell phone rings. She says, "Don't answer that." He says, "Oh, shiznet! It's the coach. I've got to answer it. I forgot to call him. But, don't stop now."

He answers the phone, with as stoic a voice as he can muster, and coach says, "Where the hell are you?" Stevie says, "Oh coach, didn't you get my message about my catching up with ya'll in the morning? I have a once in a lifetime opportunity here, and I figured you'd understand with the Super Bowl and everything, plus I'm meeting with some record label types who want to do some music together, which is what I've always wanted If its ok, I'll even get my own private flight up there later tonight, and I'll be good for the morning practice."

JVG goes, "Practice, practice, practice ... that's not what I want. I want you to lead this team. We need to bond, and watch the SuperBowl together. Didn't you get my message about taking out an earlier flight, so we could all watch the Super Bowl together. This team is in a freefall, and you're our best player, and we need you to lead now, not tomorrow." Stevie lets out a moan, "Oh God." JVG says, "What did you say?" He hears a female giggle. JVG explodes, "You blew me off for a girl?" Steve says, "Coach, you remember when you were young, don't ya? Give me a break here." JVG says, "Well is she worth a one game suspension? I hope she's worth it, cause that's what you've got." Steve explodes, "Oh God! " JVG says, "Don't even bother coming, and hangs up."

A liittle while later, on his way back to his place, Steve's agent calls, and says, "Stevie, what the hell is going on? The Rockets just announced that they are suspending you!." Stevie says, "I had a family emergency." His agent say, "Well, Coach Gundy says you were at the Super Bowl, when you should have been on the plane." "No," says Steve, "that's not what happened. You need to do your job as my agent, and tell them I had a family emergency, and we just had a communication mixup. I gotta go."

Stevie starts using his bloodless brain to think of ways that seem to make sense on how to get out of all this, but his other brain tells him that it was all worth it, and that everything would be all fine. Oh, yeah, security cameras ... I wonder if I ... then someone says, "the nights not over yet."

Sherlock - You have really put a lot of... thought into the situation. ;)
If you have any other "once in a lifetime" scenarios (frighteningly detailed or not), check out "Being Steve Francis..."

This situation just cracks me up.
Can y'all imagine Francis directing his surveillance video tape?
"OK, everybody act natural for a while and then Momma you have a seizure on the floor."

If Steve told Jeff that he was at the Super Bowl then JVG is not to blame.

I'm glad that Steve didn't go to the super bowl, but he should have been with the team, and I don't blame Jeff for saying he was at the superbowl.

Let's just hope this doesn't distract too much from the game.

Depending upon your position on whether or not alien lifeforms exist and live amongst us, this can all be easily explained with no one really at fault.

Seriously, this is getting bizarre. Only comparison I have is Butch Carter's meltdown near the end of his tenure with the Raptors; suing Camby, trying to pull off a coup for the GM's job...that was bizarre, and probably more impactive, but this beats t for sheer scratching your head-ability.

The pancake that Francis saw.. was not really a pancake nor waffles.. it was mearly Janet Jacksons nipple that he saw during the superbowl.

LMAO. JVG is already getting bashed for suspending Steve for skipping team flight. Imagine the wrath that would rain down on him if he didn't give a reason for the suspension and the Rockets lost.

Just admit it, you want to bash JVG for bashing's sake.

I don't really care how awesome of a basketball player Francis is. Getting caught red handed and still lying to cover it up goes to show me how selfish and egocentric he is.

No it doesn't show that, at least not entirely.

Steve told Jeff Van Gundy to leave the new pg, Mark Jackson, in the game because he was having such a good game the first time he saw minutes. Steve gave up minutes playing against Stephon Marbury, none-the-less to help welcome a newcomer to the team. Does this mean Steve is totally selfless and an angel?

Steve encouraging Yao to take Shaq, and vocally encouraging his teammate and showing that he believes in him has been documented. Does that mean that Steve doesn't want recognition for his skills?

Steve who was the star of his team went out of his way to pick up a rookie(Yao Ming) and drive him around and talk to him about the pressures of the NBA. Steve made an effort to go and stretch with Yao Ming and make him feel more comfortable. When has a star player ever done that for rookie? Does that mean that Steve is the ultimate team leader?

There is a problem that people run into when they try and label somebody based on just one incident. This incident was unprofessional from Steve, and showed poor judgement and leadership. But it was one incident in among many others that show contrary sides. People are more than one dimmensional, including star atheletes.

I'm a huge Francis fan, so maybe I'm "biased" (even though all of us here SHOULD be), but I couldn't care less which story is true. If Francis was with his family, that's a legitimate excuse. If Francis was at the Superbowl, it's also actually a fairly legitimate excuse, IMO. He's gotta spend all that money he's makin somewhere... or else it's just bad for the economy. :p But seriously, he planned on going to the game, and even if he couldn't, it was a game that we shouldnt' have missed Steve in. It was the Marburyless, Amareless, lowly Suns, and we got reemed. He picked as good of a pregame night as there is to have some fun. It was disappointing what happened, sure, but I was never up in arms about it.

That was the (Rockets - Steve)'s fault, not Steve's fault... well not directly, anyways.

    trungvo,

I'm confused... Did I miss something? When/where was it confirmed that Steve was lying? No, really, I'm asking.

daRox has the best explanation so far i think.

this is getting nice and weird.

as for the superbowl, i'm pretty sure steve is lying. as for the breakfast thing? didn't the paper say we cancelled practice and the team (presumably francis was there since it didn't say he wasn't) talked about the francis situation? and didn't it say jvg and francis met tuesday? steve and jvg seem to have met at some point according to the paper.

as for Woofer's guess one of the two will be gone soon. we can't fire jvg b/c we'd have to pay him for 5 years and i don't think jvg would resign. and i don't think we'd trade one of our all-stars right before the all-star game.

i wouldn't mind seeing jvg go though.

AI still reigns in philly and he makes steve look like a choirboy.
