Who said that McGrady would solve all of our problems? People are smart enough to know that the Rockets need to fill some holes.
What people have to realize i think is that with someone like Yao on your team you should be able to take advantage of that and really get some great looks and take advantage of it. Yao can make anyone look good if you play within the system. Steve did not do this, he could have been much better if he deferred more to yao then he did this system. Ask any player how much easier the game is when you have a center that demands attention like Yao. Why do you think McGrady would love to play with Yao? The guy is going to make this game so easy for him that it's going to be crazy. As long as he goes with it and actually defers to Yao and lets him feed the offense and give him open looks it will be great. That's why Kobe became so good, having Shaq take some of the pressure left Kobe to be open and take shots at will and do his thing. McGrady will flourish as long as he conforms to the system which Steve could not.
Congrats! Now you can outscore the Mavericks. But when Jim Jackson is your best defender you are still in trouble. Enjoy the regular season wins, and flaming out in the playoffs. Ouch, I think I just hurt my back, I mean toe, typing this. TMac = coachkilla.
Except we have a 7-6 eraser on the frontline who can actually, and TMac capable of shutting people down. Not to mention the makeup of our bench including Adrian Griffin and Tyronn Lue. Most importantly, this is a Jeff Van Gundy coached team- defense will not be an issue. FACT: Francis has played in 91.2% of games in his career. McGrady has played in 89.9% of games in his career. That's a difference of about 1 game per 82 game season.
The NBA should have one more expansion team for folks like you. The Kentucky Trolls or something like that.

FINALLY! this thing was taking forever. all the while i'm paying for time in internet cafes in europe to get my daily fix (yeah i'm in europe but still desperately reading cf.net, i'm hooked). obviously, i'll be sad to see steve go (and mobley just as much, 6 freakin' years i've watched that guy, i can't believe it), but if you can get tracy mcgrady when he's 25 you have to get him and see what happens instead of asking what if. hopefully van gundy doesn't screw him up and maybe we'll even try to play to mcgrady's strengths (gasp!). i swear, if tmac is deferring to yao and shooting lots of 3's instead of driving and creating for us...ok, sorry, this is a time for celebration. it will be weird, the 3 longest serving rockets players in orlando and mr. rocket himself possibly coaching the lakers. gonna have to use league pass for 2 more teams now. oh well, jet lag is catching up to me, gotta go to bed. it's been a crazy week trying to read 2200 post threads and such.
Thx Rockets2K. You da bomb! Boy oh boy oh boy. This T-mac news makes me so happy I just want to cry. theSAGE
wow what a string of events If the ping pong balls didn't fall the Vancouver Grizzles way in 99, we would never have gotten Steve Francis. If Steve Francis did not have those migranes in 01, the Rockets may have been in the playoffs and never had the chance to even be in the lottery to pickup Yao (it was still a tough pull at what 8% chance?!). If Yao Ming never came to Houston, Tmac wouldn't even be here. It's destiny I tells ya!! Championship , Dynasty.
After days and days of talk, can't believe the deal finally got sealed!!!! I was disappointed that CD was trading Cat right after his poor show in the playoffs, but then again, we're talkin' abt T-FREAKIN'-MAC man!!! and Juwan Howard to boot! oh apparently, we're free from some older guy called Steve Francis too..
are we really going to boot juwan howard? not sure if we'll be able to get a better power forward if we're going after a point guard, too. any thoughts?
Nice little on espn to watch about the duo of Yao and McGrady. http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/motion/showcase/index?videos=1831723
This is my first post on this site. I have been a die hard rockets fan since I can remember. This trade will do wonders for our organization and I am just glad that that Francis did not screw it up. All we have have to add is Fisher or Barry and a couple of bench players and we will be in really good shape. I also think that Juwan Howard will flourish in our situation because there will be less pressure on him as a 3rd of 4th option. This is a very happy day in Rocket history and I am glad to share it with all you rockets fans. Hopefully everyone can stay healthy and we can re-live the championships from the past. Great job CD and Les for making this happen. This city of Houston cannot be anything else but elated.
they said that bball god does exist. i believe it now. first, the all mighty fakers got beaten by the leastern pistons, making karla remains ringLESS. and now, WOW! tmac is finally coming to team up with yao. the future is the rockets. go rockets!
Careful, these folks are in no mood for someone raining on their parade by thinking realistically. Actually all of these woohoo posts remind me of the situation that occurred a few months ago with the Astros when they landed Pettite and Roger. There was lots of euphoria then as well and we all know how things have turned out for the Astros. Now before I'm villified for being a bit skeptical, let me point out that I am NOT saying that this was a bad trade at all. Getting McGrady was a real coup provided he's the good McGrady and not the McGrady of last season (can't tell one way or the other until things go bad for the Rockets). After all, he's 25 and Yao is 24 - both in their prime bball years. This guy is a serious upgrade over Mobley and with T-Mac & Yao, you have the makings of a championship core. No, what I think we've done is exchanged one flawed team for another flawed team only now the flaws are at different positions. This trade cannot be fully evaluated until we see what type of players they put around Yao & T-Mac and how those players perform. And THAT's been the biggest problem with the Rockets for years - their inability to recognize and acquire quality NBA players to round out their team. Everyone is basing on faith that CD & Co can get this job done right THIS TIME. I'm reserving judgement until I see something more concrete on the court. We now return you to the Tracey McGrady Coronation currently in progress...
The people who want to put the Rockets in automatic contention for the title are basically saying it's solving all our problems. Like I said, it was a good trade and I'm happy just don't count your chickens before they've hatched.
