    Yao/Mutombo/Butler
    Scola/Hayes/Howard
    Battier/Snyder
    TMac/Wells/Head
    James/Francis/Alston/Brooks

That team is loaded. We still have to finish things up with Lucas, Reed, Sura, and Novak.

Deke will not sign for the veteran's minimum, but the Rox can offer him the bi-annual exception at about 1.8 million.

Rocket personnel strategy: Trade players away and they will come back for cheap. :D

Juwan hurts the team when he plays. He doesn't rebound, he tries to flop, he can't jump more than 2 inches off the ground, he is horrible at finishing plays, he gets blocked alot, and his jumper is no longer a reliable weapon anymore

Yeah, but he is bad for 7 mil per 2 year contract, pretty darn good for LLE one year deal.

I believe all of their trade exceptions have already expired.

    Hakeem!

And yes, I'm absolutely serious. But it would have to be Hakeem circa 1995. :D

The last thing for Rox to do is to bring JH back to Houston, have you watch the playoff last year? JH was a big time loser, besides JH, and C. Webber just bring you a unluck number to the teams whereever they go, just look at the records for those two.

those are 21 players but realisticly only 15 of them are quality players for the rockets.

i'm not sure deke fits the current team. he should retire. landry and harris are projects at best. reed was a trade filler. sura retired. lucas won't be here anymore.

that's 15 players and a solid group. you have to expect that some offseason moves won't pan out. there is no way francis, james and wells together will meet the expectations of their supporters here. at least one of them will be a real bust. when the trade deadline comes the rockets will have at best 12 real contributers.

If we could get Howard and Deke for the vets min and the bi-annual exception I'd be excited. Looks, even if Howard isn't great on the court, he's a fantastic locker room guy. Besides, its not like Howard would be our first option. Just looking at next year I'd trust Howard to take the floor more than Landry or Harris.

I really do not understand why people are objecting to this move. Adding Howard (at the vet minimum, only intended to be used sparingly) only makes us deeper. At the very least, it makes our scrimmages better. Say what you will about him, but he is a relatively smart ball player and a consummate professional.

Plus, I kind of like the idea of making it appear as though we pulled Mike James from a magic hat. I am all for adding Howard at the minimum.

i agree. there is not really a good (i.e. unbiased) argument for not adding him for the LLE. The "developing" argument is weak because rockets time to win is now and does sitting at the end of the bench really develop someone? its better they go to d-league

Since I believe the James-Reed-Howard trade went down before june 30th--the end of last season, we can trade for Howard back.

We could trade a package of players from Alston (4.6mil, 3 years left), Reed (1.4, 2), JL3 (.8, expiring/option), Novak (.7, expiring/option), Snyder (2.4, expiring/option), Butler (2.4, 2--but need to wait until 9/12) and/or the rights to Landry for him (no salary charge). Save us some money (send out more than we take back) and thin out the roster.

Minny would probably be happy to take back shorter term contracts and/or younger players even if they kinda suck.

I will say this, if he is bought out and it came down to signing Deke or Howard, I probably go with Deke. But doing a trade like that above (send out say Rafer + Butler + JL3/Vovak for Howard and a 2nd rounder) makes bringing both back more feasible by freeing up another million bucks, 2 million+ with lux tax.

    I'd rather have Mike Harris.

This thread isn't complete without an opinion from tinman.

I think tinman would tell us that no team with Juwon on the roster has ever won a NBA championship.

I guess it couldn't hurt to have a vet like that on the bench.

Or, could it? Hold on...let me ask...SATAN.

Juwan for the the vets min. is a bargain. I mean how many quality back up players can you get at that price?

I all for it because it makes us deeper unless Morey can pull of a quality back up 4/5 trade for alston + JLIII.
