I would rather resign howard than resign deke, howard is more mobile than deke. I dont understand why the heck people would want to turn jho down as a 9th or 10th scoring option after what he did for us last year. Juwon Howard has never been a cancer in his entire career, HIS CONTRACT has been the cancer that makes his former teams better. Howard is a good backup center at this point in his career and plays well when he's beside chuck.

Juwon on the cheap would be good for the team since there really aren't any other decent 4's out there that we can afford. He knows the players here, so he would be comfortable and he would be an asset off of any bench.

Plus he could be another trading chip later in the season which is a plus if we will be looking to deal Rafer.

That's just crazy. Deke's 40+ but plays like he's 30. Juwan always played like he's 50. Juwan's quality depth, nonetheless.

Juwan wouldn't be bad as a back up for insurance.

Juwon for cheap could work well for the Rockets. Knowing his role, he won't cry for playing time giving Scola all the time to develop; and vice-versa Howard and Hayes are adequate enough to handle the 4. Above all, if they sign him, it will be for the locker room presence and positive attitude.

Supposedly, since the Wolves are having trouble trading Juwan's crazy contract, JHo is negotiating a buyout and is willing to give back a substantial amount back to the Wolves to make it worth their while.

Well, the Rox don't believe Landry is NBA ready, and will have him play in the D-League. Reed will either be traded as part of a package or will be released.

JHo is insurance in case Scola struggles and, of course, Hayes can't shoot that 15 footer like Juwan.

Personally, I hope the Rox pass on him. Let them go in another direction.

I hope we can try to trade some players away first to develop some roster space. If we can only somehow get a 1st rounder out of luther and a 2nd rounder out of jl3 and maybe a conditional 1st rounder from rafer. that'd be great.

Agree, the rockets don't have a young run & jump athlete at the 4. Landry would be the closest thing to that. Let's see the rockets develop him.

I would love this to happen. I really don't have great hopes for Howard, but the four spot on this team still makes me very nervous.

I want to love Scola as much as the next guy, but I can't help but thinking we're putting WAY too many eggs in the Scola basket. International play and the NBA are two very different games...I think the guy has the tools to be a really solid player, but I still can't let myself rely on him to take over the four position immediately for us. And as much as I like Hayes--I think that he gets as much out of what he's got as anyone on the team--he's not great starter material for a contending team.

If we can sign Howard for the vet minimum, it really shores up the four position more for us. I don't need the guy to get more than ten minutes a game if Scola and Hayes are handling the job. But I think that he could really contribute to Scola's progression in the league and fill in in case of injuries. I don't see a downside to this except that a couple of brand new rookies might not be able to stay, which frankly doesn't hurt my feelings all that much.

    Actually, why not sign Juwan?

He's not a bad backup. He played well (enough) when Yao was out.

This would also free us up to make other roster moves (Landry would be trade bait, any of several guards...good Lord, but we have too many players on the roster....)

Howard can contribute right away in a reserve role....and he's provide some veteran leadership and presence for the young guys.

If he comes cheap, bring him on!!

When he is with us... everyone hates on him. After he leaves... we all appreciate him. At the thought of him coming back... we all panic.

Juwon is a total professional and team leader. He brings toughness and a nice (abet limited) post game. He is always the first guy up on the bench cheering his teammates on. He would be a great fit back on the ROX and an upgrade over Landry or any of our other backup/backup power forward options.

Plus... if Scola doesn't pan out or we have injuries to either him or Hayes... Juwon could fill in without much drop off. Couldn't say the same about Landry/etc.

Don't you hate it when you mis-spell someone's name in the title of a thread because you are trying to beat everyone else to the punch?
