Butler would be a very serviceable backup for YAO. He's not really a C, but his big body would do fine. The kid still has lots of potential. He played really good when he was with the Knicks before he signed on with the Spurs.

This may be why Morey is playing hardball with Deke. If Deke doesn't sign, Morey can say he tried. If he signs for the lowball sum, Morey goes to Alexander with a dung-eating-grin.

We need Deke, but J.B. is the future (for now). Actually, I hope Butler spells Scola at PF rather than Hayes or Landry.

that's not true, morey wants deke back. it is just that the most he can offer deke is the bi-annual exception of 1.8 million. deke earned 2.5 each season for the last 2 years. he is mulling whether to accept that or a better offer.

To be Yao's or Butler's b/u? For that matter, might Deke be the insurance policy and Butler the few minutes player?

Honestly if we want a good backup center, go after Chris Webber. He sucks on defense and can't run but he's a perfect fit for the offense and would be a great change of pace because you can actually run a purer version of the princeton offense with Webber on the high post most of the time.

I agree. I'd rather see Webber than Howard on this team with this coach if we have to pick between the two.

And I'd think Adelman could put on a good recruiting job to get Webber here for minimum.

He played pretty well for Detroit during the latter part of last season. I think he is absolutely fine as a backup for the vet minimum.

not just putting the blame on cwebb, but why do you think detroit couldn't beat cleveland in the conference finals?

I think it was a collective effort. Billups played extremely poorly for a big portion of the series, Rasheed did not help out either. Hamilton was decent, but nothing special and Prince was pretty ineffective.

Cwebb was suppose to be a luxury for them at that point, not put them over the top. The series should of never gotten to 7 games, but somehow the Pistons managed to choke that badly. Put Cleveland against any of the top 4 teams in the West, and that would of never happened.

I'm quoting myself, but the keyword is backup... not starting.

I'd rather Juwan than Webber, given the choice, if only because Webber will cause problems if and when he loses playing time to Scola. Besides that, Webber's defense at this point is abysmal.

why all the hating on Jho?
I was one of the first to chant for Jho trade, but that was due to his performance vs his salary. if the rumor is true than his performance vs his vet min would be a steal for us.

I know some of you wanted to develop these younger guys, but if our mode is to win now do we even have time for core-players to gel?

laundry is a second round pick, who also happens to be a senior at college. Meaning his ceiling for growth has pretty much tapped and he is a serviceable Hayes type of player. I think training and DL would do him well, and if he can proof himself in training than he could see some PT.

abundance of players - well, that's good news, because our new coach can work and play around with different setups and players to form the best team. If owner don't care about it, why should we?

it just depends if juwan gets bought out by the wolves. if he is willing to accept the veteran's minimum, then it will be okay.

If JuHo is bought out there will only be vet's min available to him. See: rest of unsigned FAs.
