Lost in the shuffle of this thread: We're probably NOT getting Fisher and his "FULL MLE or more" contract. I can die a happy man now.
Using the TE in a trade to get a Daniels would be perfect. Then you use the full MLE to try and get Swift or part of the MLE or the veterans exception (about $1.6 million, correct?) to get a Mihm type player and/or Clark, Ostertag, etc.
Maybe because I'm a Illini guy, but I like Frank Williams. He was a former BIG 10 player, a pass PG who can score, with very good ball handling. He has the size (6'3, 210) and quickness to defend. He may not ready to start for us at the begining of the season, but 20+ minutes a game should be good enough to work him into the lineup by all-star break, then Lue will be back him up.
I'd upgrade that guess to a definite possibility. Rudy T likes Payton tho' and I doubt he'd let him scoot.
I heard that too - but even without signing Fisher (as some suggest) they have Flip Murrary, Ray Allen, and Luke Ridnourand David Young
if we trade for A. Daniels and a center that would solve both problems C. Booth makes 5.6 til 07 J. James makes 4.9 til 05 and V. Potapenko makes 5.5 til 05 so none of the contracts are for that long
If the Rockets had to take Booth's bad contract, I would demand Luke Ridnour instead of Daniels. Booth's contract is easily the worst of the 3 because it last for 3 more seasons instead of 1. Plus, he's the worse of their 3 centers.
Well you gotta give up something to get something. They ain't trading Ridnour, he's the reason they want to trade Daniels, and everyone knows it. Daniels is a bargain at only $2 million, and Booth is likely their incentive for parting with that bargain. If we get Daniels and Booth, it's two birds with one stone. Be happy.
In another instance of this board providing insight that even the so-called 'experts' have overlooked, I didn't even realize that Daniels has only one year left. For me, that makes him the lock as our primary target. I was leaning towards Fisher, but getting Daniels in his last year raises his overall value to this team significantly...IMO. I have been converted...get Daniels and James, clear as much cap space as possible for NEXT summer (or summer '06), and construct this team prudently, a la what the Texans have patiently done as an expansion team.
Would love to do any of the following: - TE for James and Daniels. - MoT for Booth and Daniels. Any of those would be great. If we can only get the first done, I suggest we deal MoT to the Celtics for Chris Mihm and Yogi Stewart.
1. Whoever compared Antonio Daniels to Chauncey Billups is right only in that they were both high lottery picks that didn't pan out. Daniels isn't really that good. There really isn't much potential there if that's what you think you're getting. He was selected so high in the draft because of his athleticism. Billups has always been an explosive player but too erratic and unreliable. If you're advocating that we acquire Daniels because you think he has the potential to become a big time player, you're in for a rude awakening. 2. With that said, he's probably at the top of my list if for no other reason than that his contract is a godsend by current NBA standards. $2.5million/yr for a capable starter is a very good value. Daniels is big, not Steve Francis but pretty athletic, a good defender, and takes care of the ball well as demonstrated by his league leading AST/TO ratio. He's not that good of a spot up shooter but he's not Eric Snow either. The upside on Daniels is definitely the defensive possibilities due to his size as well as his contract. That contract cannot be overlooked. There really is no downside except that I think alot of you are really overrating him and will be disappointed. He's a good NBA player who can do we what we need out of our starting point guard, but don't get your hopes up. From some of the posts I'm reading, some of you are expecting this guy to break out and fulfill his potential. Not going to happen. Sign him up though.
Check his contract...production per dollar is really bad in his case. Plus, his rebounds are very few for a power forward of his size, which could be interpreted as lack of effort.
I guess Seattle must be looking at him the same way. What do you think would be a fair deal with the Sonics regarding Daniels and a 5 for the TE+?
He's good as a 6th man, instant O. He canNOT D against the tall and/or athletic 4s or board. He's a terrific passer - once per game. If he were a 5mil player I'd like him loads better.
I like MO. He's better than the other PF scrubs we have. He played well this year and in the playoffs. His rebounds are low, yes. But our guards turn the ball over too much, which lowers rebounding opportunities. He's offensive game is good and he's young.
I don't see lack of effort. I feel that he's been improving ever since the injury. At times he was the only one producing last year, shooting 48%. After adjusting for minutes, his pts and boards aren't much different than Howard's, and he has more room to improve. I imagine that he may be our best trade bait for a serviceable PG, but he isn't fodder.
