Depends on which Odorizzi shows up after he is healthy.

    Oh I’m not arguing that

I would hire him back right now if I were making the decisions

It’s just not a comparable situation to Kap. Really not all that comparable to Binds or Clemens either because of the role, but those are definitely better comps that Kap

Odorizzi and the Astros both knew when this contract was signed that there was practically no chance of him taking it. It was just a manipulation to keep him AAV down so Astros could reset the tax threshhold.

He has already pitched well enough to get a better offer unless he's hurt going into next year.

If the season ended now, he chooses between a $6.5 mil salary or $3.25 mil buyout + being a free agent. No way he doesn't get over $3.25 as FA so no chance he takes the option.

If he starts ( or has 4+ IP) 13 more time his salary goes up to $8.5 but the buyout goes up to $4.25 .Again if he gets 20 starts this year there is no way he does not find a contract of at least $4.25 mil.

If he starts 18 more games it's $$10.5 mil w/ $5.25 buyout and no way he does not find a $5.25+ contract after a season of 25+ starts.

If he makes 30 starts its $12.5 mil salary and $6.25 buy out.

There is no combination where he can't find a better contract on the FA market unless he's seriously hurt and expected to miss substantial time in 2023.
