Superman Returns Matrix Revolutions/Reloaded Hulk Pirates 3 I can understand how people would be letdown by these movies, but I loved them. With Revolutions, I knew going in that a lot of the film would be out of the Matrix, and I think that helped when watching. It's a good film in it's own right, aside from the blatant crucifixion scene at the end. Pirates may be a bit long, and the ending wasn't quite as feel good as I wanted, but I still dug it. Ocean's 12 Quantum of Solace Kill Bill Vol II These are surefire head-scratchers. Sure Ocean's and Bond might not have been as good as their predecessor, but they were still great movies. The whole Ocean's Trilogy is just plain awesome. Solace was a nice conclusion to Casino Royale's story. And Kill Bill?! The second I think is the better of the two. It's definitely a lot deeper. So many awesome moments. I mean damn, what other film are you captivated by a guy making a freakin' sandwich! Troy Day After Tomorrow Not sure what expectations were for these films. Troy might not have been quite as epic as it needed to be, but it was a good action/adventure. And what do you expect from the team that brought us Independence Day? I liked Day After Tomorrow as a cheesy Summer blockbuster. And then there's Prometheus. You're gonna like it or hate it. But no way it could possibly live up to the gargantuan expectations placed on it. I think it succeeded in that it tried to tell a bold story. Agree on Lost World. I loved it as a kid, save for the uneven bars. But watching it again recently was a little painful. Jurassic III was worse though.
Vanilla Sky was awesome. One of my all time favorite movies. And why the hell is Jennifer's Body even on the list. I thought that movie was **** before and after I saw it.
IMO, Hangover 2 was better than the first. Eyes Wide Shut is one of my fave movies of all time. Extremely underrated. I was entertained by Terminator Salvation. Worthington was a badass in it.
I think Ocean's 12 was disappointing because you're supposed to reboot franchises, not individual scripts. And you don't need a breakdancing Frenchman when your leading lady dips beneath lasers.
Agree pretty much, all of those were let downs. Don't know why Sucker Punch is on there... anyone thinking that was going to be something special deserves to be let down.
80% of these movies were made since 2000. Speaks to the complete and utter wasteland Hollywood has become. Mostly devoid of talent and ideas. My comments on the list: The Phantom Menace HAS to be #1. What a complete ***** sandwich that was. Alien 3 was also a complete let down. I liked Godfather 3. Not as much as the first 2 of course, but come on. Those were 2 of the top 10 movies of all time. Kinda hard to meet that sort of standard.
Yes, in response to that other thread about disappointing epic poems, as opposed to this one, about the films they were based on.
The 2 and 3 Matrix Star Wars the The Phantom Menace, all 3. Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End Prometheus(still have some hope for the DC version) Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
Honestly Godfather 3 is a pretty good film. I just got tired of Francis Ford Coppola poking me in the ribs with his elbow and saying, "See what I did there? See what I did there?" The constant "subtle" nods to the earlier films, and the non-stop orange references were a bit much. That being said I didn't mind Sophia Coppola's Mary Corleone as much as a lot of people seem to. She did okay.
Phantom Menace was such a disaster that George Lucas basically punted on the dumbdumbs race that was on Naboo and left them out of the rest of the series in any meaningful way.
Missing from this list: Sphere - That cast?? THAT CAST? And THAT is the movie you made? Battlefield Earth - truly epic awesome story, no matter what you think of Hubbard, and these people (Travolta, et al) utterly violated it Mystery Men - fun cast totally wasted True Legend (only because I was so personally disappointed) Exit to Eden - there are not words to describe the horror.. Freejack - Coming on the heels of Lambs, and Hopkins delivers a truly excrement-filled sandwich of a movie Dune - The novels were insanely popular growing up, and the decision to hand it over to Lynch is one of the stupidest, most foul mistakes ever made in the history of cinema
