I'm too young for tecmo bowl and punch out, so the first guy I thought of clicking in this thread was Michael Vick in Madden 04.
The first three I thought of were Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl, Walter Payton in Tecmo Bowl, and Scottie Pippen in NBA Jam. I was not disappointed.
NCAA basketball for Super Nintendo had a sharpshooter named Davidson (i think) who played on the Duke team and he was unreal from 3pt land. Should have made the list... also the fictional guys should have their own list

There was a bug with Bulls vs Blazers on the SNES with Danny Manning's special move where I could dunk, and get the ball back instead of the other team inbounding. Scored 400 points in a game with him. Now that was unstoppable.
There was also a bug in one of the late '90s NBA games from EA Sports that allowed to centers to constantly make three-pointers but it was difficult to duplicate. My friend could do it and hit 3s with the likes of Mutombo, Ewing, etc. constantly. We had to put a rule in where he could not do that.
player not on list who should be: Jerry Ball (Lions) in Super Tecmo Bowl. you press the dive button over and over again before the ball was snapped...and as soon as it was snapped...about 1/3 of the time it would be an instantaneous sack.
LMFAO - that's Lakers v. Celtics, I loved that game to death. Too bad Hakeem was only on the West All Stars. I can remember the few signature moves too, all launched from that side of the court....let's see, the Chambers double pump, and then Magic had this finger roll, Isiah had a 360 layup, David Robinson had a windmill, Jordan had a long "air" style dunk, Barkley had a long 2-handed gorilla style dunk...Bird had some sort of bank shot layup IIRC.
In Fifa 2006 WC edition (best soccer game ever) Carlos Alberto was one of the Legends you could purchse...... He was amazing. DD
