They need to sign him NOW. He's showing he would be a great 3rd string PG and also that probably in a year or two he will be a very solid 2nd string PG.
John has surely deserved it. He improved his weaknesses: Confidence Perimeter Shooting Defense He has a lot more confidence in his game. While in the NBA for the Rockets, I remember him in several points of the game checking in and making an impact on turning the game for the Rockets a lot faster. Alone, I liked that a lot. I think we should try to get JL3 on a deal with 2 yeras guaranteed, 3rd year Team Option.
I'm just going by what James said in that interview with Kfan. To be honest, I've avoided the Mike James threads lately because it's pages upon pages of b****ing and moaning, with a shred of new info/perspective after about every 20 posts. So maybe I am behind the curve on this one. Edit: Okay, I've just read the CD interview where he says that the trade kicker was the only sticking point. Mea Culpa.
You know what? Whether he signs here or not, good for him! I'm proud to see he's earned his way into the league.
I agree! For a guy his size, it's heart and skills. That, and some damned good genes. We should give him a 2 year guaranteed contract. It would be cheap, and you know he's just dyin' to play for the Rockets.
As a career move, I agree with Clutch that the Suns is a no-brainer (I add to those comments that he would be practicing and learning from Nash at the same time). Fortunately, he has played two summers for the Rockets and his dad played for us and lives in Houston. We are certainly the sentimental favorites. I think he would make an excellent bench player, and in addition to that it will be interesting to see how he develops and handles the NBA and playing against much larger players. I think his skills may be good enough to overcome that liability... especially if he develops into a clutch shooter.
But we said nice things about him last year as we pulled him out of the NBDL, and then dumped him after 20 days. That had to hurt. If JL3 has a label for our management, I think "insincere" and "impatient" would be it. By the way, is this becoming a pattern? JVG makes a decision and has to retract it later. Mike James, Chuck Hayes, Scott Padgett, and now John Lucas 3. JVG can't seem to evaluate talent properly; it's why he brought in all those old Knicks: because he couldn't trust his own evaluations but he could definitely trust Riley's. As I said before, JVG can drive somebody else's car, but he can't build his own. This is just one reason I want him out of town.
That's not true. JVG loved JL3 from day 1. We had to cut him because we had 16 guys on our roster and then one of our forwards went out so we had to cut him. He understood. JL Jr. said in an interview that JL3 loves JVG. He said JVG made JL3 a much better player.
You're right. I'll add Luther to MJ, Hayes, Padgett, and JL3. Maybe Lampe as well, because he seems to be showing a pulse in the summer leagues.
And once he is a solid 2nd string PG, by JVG Standards, he can start every game of the season and be the long term solution at the point. He goes, he stays, no big deal. JVG won't be playing him that much.
I don't remember us bringing in any forwards (except for Lampe, the zero-minute wonder), so that couldn't have been the reason we dumped JL3. I think JVG just desperately wanted to win, and had no patience for developing anybody. I can see the buttering up from here....
I don't quite understand how this summer league roster works. I thought that because we have his rights he is playing for us right now. If we decide to cut him, then only he can sign with someone else. If this was the case, why can't we go after guys who are playing on different summer league teams?
