Like many have already said, it's been hyped so much that you are pretty much destined to be disappointed the first time you go there. After the second time you realize that its pretty much better than any other type of fast food burger you can get. It seems to me if you're from the West Coast or have visited California in your youth, then you probably have put In-N-Out on a pedestal for so long that obviously nothing will ever be as good. The inverse applies for a lot of my friends in the DC Area (where Five Guys started) who have been eating Five Guys for years. When they visited California for the first time they don't understand the In-N-Out hype since to them Five Guys is the gold standard. Personally I like Five Guys better. Just seems a little less "fast-foody" to me. They offer more toppings and the toppings seems to be of a higher quality. I also think the fries at Five Guys are much better. They just taste more like potato and use less batter.
I wish that In-N-Out offered to customize burgers the way Five Guys does. That would make the greatest place on Earth.
Just a word of advice. If you're with someone a small fries is really enough for two people. A large might be enough for four.
Yea the fries are ridiculous there. I dont remember the taste, I just remember you had two choices, one was like 4 bucks and the other was like 6! Then they give it to you in a brown paper bag which turns too dark brown after about 10 seconds because of all the grease
The fries are really good. The burger isn't bad at all either -- definitely better than all fast food joints with the possible exception of Whataburger.
I noticed that there was a 5 Guys in Baytown not far from my house. Looks like its gonna be a 5 Guys Burger, some beer, and NBA on ESPN 2nite...
I like the simplicity. Regular or animal is enough differentiation. What did you want to customize it with? Jalapenos? Mustard? Onion rings? BBQ sauce? Typical Texan I do wish they had BACON however.
You are freaking mad! Smashburger is one of the worst burgers I've ever had. So bland, so... blah. The fries are ok, though.
I consider it a rip because I usually get full from the fries. It's a big ol' cup of fries and a relatively tiny burger, even the double, which is the standard order. The single is called the jr. or something but either way they give you so much fries and not enough burger. Not even close to the guy that compared it to Beck's Prime. Calling some nonexistent sauce a special recipe doesn't make a mediocre burger taste any better.
I'm a Californian, been in Texas for 3 years... and I love In-N-Out, but I think it would be even better if you could put jalapenos and such on it.
Place called Lompoc. Known for its Maximum Security Prison. Infamously mispronounced by Vin Diesel in the Fast in the Furious. Along the boring stretch of the central coast of Cali, too far north of LA and too far south of San Francisco.
I have dreams about In N out. Thin patty with crisped edges, fresh chopped iceburg lettuce, fresh tomato and onions with oozing American cheese with special spread on a fresh bun and not overly greasy fries. DROOOOOOOOL.
Being from New York, the best burgers i've ever had are White Castle. Fudrecker's and Five Guys are definitely 2nd and 3rd on my list.
I Know!! Stuck in Houston, wish I was rich enough to make a flight out there for the weekend, I would do go atleast once a month for that! The fries are perfect!
