So I have a 4k Monitor arriving today, and I am excited to try and game on it, but I'd also like to watch movies and videos. Then I realized there's like 0 content for free of 4k out there (unless I'm mistaken, thus being the reason for this thread). So can anyone PLEASE prove me wrong and show me or tell me where to get some 4k content (non p*rn) without buying a redray or UHD Media player?
This, but add Amazon to the list as well and they along with Netflix and YouTube are your best bet - but be prepared to kill your ISP bandwidth to stream them. You can also buy digital movies in 4K (on Amazon), but again - the bandwidth requirements are extreme, about 150GB each.
I recently got a 4k monitor as well and content has been underwhelming. Luckily I bought it for gaming and that's where it shines. GTA 5 in 4k looks awesome. Bluray just announced standards for UHD and pretty soon will start making 4k blurays, and players should pop in soon. http://www.extremetech.com/computin...nalized-4k-support-hdr-digital-bridge-sharing
all content will be on a streaming service like netflix, Hulu etc.. or ultraHD blue-ray type disks for a long while. Broadcast networks won't be there for a very long time due to the extraordinarily high costs of the infrastructure. The cameras and editing equipment are actually fairly inexpensive, but its everything involved in getting the signal to air that is expensive.
I purchased a 4K TV looks good but NOT great because of the content. On Netflix it's great but on regular cable its just okay. You get a lot of black fuzz in shadow areas which annoys the crap out of me. I regret buying it because there just isn't the content out there for me to watch the game for example. I even purchased the high end 65" Samsung because it has up-scaling but still not that impressed...
I wonder how far into the future would it take for the technology to catch up to have 144 Hz refresh rates on 4K monitors, similar to many 1440p displays out currently???
I am sticking with my Panasonic Plasma ZT65 for the time being. I still think its one of the greatest TVs ever made.
The 2 biggest bottlenecks for 4K currently are just what you both have mentioned: ISP bandwidth caps (and infrastructure, but that's another topic for another day), and not many live sources for 4K for home use (for example, big sporting events).
Just read you have to have a UHDTV to stream netflix or amazon video in UHD, Computer set ups wont allow for it.... WTF? The article is like 6 months old, but still! http://www.techhive.com/article/285...n-a-pc-or-mac-even-though-theyre-capable.html
I'd say PC gaming.. but unless you have newer beastly video card(s), you're not going to be happy. 4k PC gaming is amazing if you have the hardware.
