Makes the Raiders desperate trade for C. Palmer look even worse now.

    He really is.

Cassel actually had that one great season with the Chiefs. Alex Smith is capable of the same thing. He can play well if you just need him to hand the ball off, and throw the occassional pass.

2nd round pick(34th overall) & a conditional 2014 pick that can turn into another 2nd round pick. Nice work by the 9ers.

He's the perfect QB for Andy Reid - should immediately make that team much better.

The 49'ers get picks AND they drop salary? How much money do they have? I imagine they're not paying Bowman, Smith, Kapernick, Hunter, etc... anything. How much cap maneuverability do they have in 2013? Can they sign a Mike Wallace to pair with Kapernick (Jesus help us)?

They're peaking AND growing, Texans peak and immediately start falling apart. It's like the Texans were made in the US and the 49'ers were made in Japan.

The Texans just have a bad front office. It is not normal for a team to get good and immediately have cap problems. That's normally the case if you have a team that gets good by signing a bunch of veterans. It's hard to believe that a team that has was bad for basically 10 years and then got good has cap issues. Look how long the Ravens have been good and this is the first offseason where they have cap issues that are leading them to lose players they want to keep.

Yep. That's why I think they have the bleakest future out of the three sports teams in town.

The 49ers were extremely lucky with how many of their picks turned out to give tremendous value, but they are one significant injury to Colin Kapernick to wishing that they never traded Smith away...Teams are going to start game planning against running QB's a bit more...

The one thing that im tremendously impressed by are the number of Picks the Niners have accrued this year: 11...

Niners have 15 draft picks this year. Surely a trade is coming, no? How about Revis? They have the picks to do it if they so wish.(Although they would probably need to pay him too.)

Edit: Turns out they are reportedly pursuing Revis

What team isn't a starting QB away from disaster? Besides, you don't pay a backup (Smith) that kind of money, signing a safe veteran QB will suffice. Plus, the 49'ers aren't built around Kapernick.

Grabbing Revis would be nuts. Just let him walk after 2013, no need to pay him. What's their cap situation looking like? I'd aim for a stud WR to pair with Kapernick. Maybe cut Gore.

I think it's more the coaching staff than the front office; the Texans of 2009 and 2010 were well built and easily playoff teams with a couple of minor tweaks. That's why the cap problems felt so immediate. That said, I suppose there's some responsibility for the front office to hold Kubiak's feet to the fire more frequently than they do.

Glad they are in the NFC, I don't see any team competing with them. They are a complete football team if I ever saw one.
