If you read the section on Order of Operations here (namely the last part concerning modern textbooks), then maybe you will agree that the answer, as it is written is 288- http://jeff560.tripod.com/operation.html
Why do you keep clicking on it if it bothers you so much? Geez, people, why should any of you care how long it gets? And to all those who keep feigning outrage over those who answer 2, did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, some of these people are doing it just to tick you off?
The correct answer is 2. I asked my friend who is an assistant professor of Finance at MIT. He is also Asian.
I haven't read this thread at all, but if people are seriously answering 2 then they are some freakin dumb asses.
I haven't read this thread since page 15 or so but I'm sure the distributive property has been brought up.. How would this simplify? 48÷2(a+b) ----------------- 48/(2a+2b) or 24a+24b Find this answer and you can find the answer to the problem, which of course is the reason why everybody is arguing.. so this might be beating a dead horse
I saw this thread had 666 replies and I got scared. So I'm posting in your thread, cleansing out the devil. And the answer is 2. God told me.
Woo first post! also the answer is 288. 48/ 2*(9+3) = 48/ 2*(12) = 24*12 = 288 people getting 2 probably added another pair of brackets around 2*(9+3) like this:48/(2*(9+3)) = 48 /(2*12) = 48/ (24) = 2
So the debate rages on... http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=question&id=1967593674538&qa_ref=pt Different numbers...but here's the best answer 6÷2(1+2)=? 6÷2+4=? 3+4=? THE ANSWER IS 7 LOL
This thread still going? Anyway two weeks ago I tried that formula on my uncle and the other singer in my band, both of whom are electrical engineers and over 30. They both got 2.
All I gotta say is... aussiejack, biggiebody, chestr, conundrum, famicom, hydrohead, iconoclastic, Invisible Fan, J-Mac, JuanValdez, k-money, Mr. Clutch, nguyen3706, srrm, TexasTofu, txppratt ...are a bunch of p*****s for not choosing an answer
Okay just to make sure that everyone understands thats not my answer just the most liked answer on the facebook question. The person also isn't adding 1 and 2 together. The person is being even more creative then that. She decided to distribute the 2. Which is LOL worthy. Best answer yet
It won't die...Its only spreading and will soon divide the country. National or even global issue here. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=question&id=1967593674538&qa_ref=pt Luckily the person who posted that is from Canada Okay I don't care much about the argument itself. But the funniest thing is when the people in this thread and the facebook thread cites PEMDAS and ain't applying it right If your going to cite something as your argument at least understand it (ie multiplication doesn't take precedence over division).
