Did this pick strike any of you as very non-Rudy like? Especially in the second round, Rudy seemed to like older collegiate guys who had been successful historically but slipped in the time approaching the draft. Terence Morris was a prototypical Rudy pick. This guy is young, inexperienced and untested. Anyway, I'm hoping he remains in Germany for awhile. He's not really going to get any playing time ahead of Mo Taylor, Eddie Griffin, Yao Ming and Kelvin Cato. As long as he plays overseas, we'll hold his NBA rights.
I predict he will be even BETTER than Hakeem, KG, and Eddie all rolled up into one! None of those guys could put on 17 pounds of muscle in such a short time! Go Rockets! Actually, I think it was as good a pick as we could get at #44, so no complaints. My comparison would be to Ousmane Cisse from last year, a "beast" with "tremendous upside" who would take some years to develop. Does anyone know what became of him?
Don't be too sure, he might just fit in as one of our scrubs while he learns the Game. Sort of like Nachbar last year.When he gets his playing time he could be our 'Amare', JVG will like his defence!
Yes, it is not a typical Rudy pick, imo. I like it , however. Unless he blows up in the Summer Leagues, playing in Europe for awhile would probably be best for his development and our cap.
ya know, maybe i just take it for granted, but i just don't understand how a big man can NOT have good footwork. i mean, my goodness. it's essentially like a series of dance steps designed to a) get your man off balance; and/or b) create separation. it is not that difficult to feel your defender with your back. i mean, damn, when i see guys with terrible footwork (ahem *chris webber*, ahem *dikembe mutombo*, ahem *robert horry*) i just want to slap them. a little humility and effort would elevate their games beyond belief.
Interesting pick! I postulated elsewhere that we needed a guard and that it would be Keith Bogans. That didn’t happen, and we didn’t even draft a guard at all! This guy is fairly raw, but has skill and apparently is very athletic. He could be a player, and he’s at a position where we don’t have to count on him. That's good, because you can’t count on anyone in the second round, so it’s a bad place to draft for need. The Rockets drafted the “best available athlete,” and might have done well. We’ll have to see how he performs in the LA Summer League to see if he has any shot at the roster. If he does well, it gives the Eddie Griffin trade rumormongers some ammunition! This also makes the rest of the summer a little more interesting: not just to see how Badiane develops, but whether he’s available to us at all (he’s under contract in Germany and has obligations to the Senegalese Olympic team) and whether, if he’s as good as some people say, he makes someone on the roster (Griffin or Cato) tradeable. Will we trade for a top flight guard, perhaps to a team that needs a center? Kelvin Cato for Eddie Jones? Or will we just try to get the best guard we can with our mid-level exception, e.g. Eric Snow? Let the games begin.....

Perhaps this is a clue of what to expect from JVG, come trading season. We have 2 PF's, that both have their flaws. Taylor is offense, with literally no defense (not a JVG guy). Griffin is a above average rebounder & blocker, with questionable strength & offense IQ (but has potential to be a JVG guy). Perhaps JVG took this pick to bring in nothing more then a defensive presence to backup the PF spot, which would mean BYE-BYE to Taylor. To read about his chicago workout (?) and that rubber band thing, makes me think he can bring some needed toughness & fire to our inside defense.
I still thought this was impressive about this guys desire and hard work. It was said if he worked out with a 1st rd pick like Ebi,he would have killed him! Badiane, may not be able to play alot this season, but if this guy shows that same desire that they think, he's a keeper. Alot of people think that if he slipped to the 2nd rd its something wrong, but history tells us, that sometimes guys slip through the cracks even recently. Redd,Arenas,Lewis, even Manu,Jaric Rose and guys like that were drafted in the 2nd rd. Everyone who likes to bash Mobley, including myself, their are alot of teams who wish they had a 2nd rd pick thats as productive as he is. Especially with the influx of international players, no longer will team draft in the 2nd rd just cause, teams now will draft with a purpose. Lampe was projected as a top 10 pick, and fell into the Knicks laps in the 30's. I hate to say it, the Knicks might have gotten a lotto pick at in the 2nd rd. When this draft is revisited, I think Badiane will be looked at as a player who fell through the cracks. His explosion,intensity, and work ethic is what thrills me about this guy.
He will surpass Mobley as our best 2nd round pick. Maybe this was Rudy's going away present? At least we don't have 2 billion Chinese posters telling us not to call him Malick... Oh, he is related to Cuban through Dennis Rodman... that was the connecftion...

Uh oh, here comes the influx of Sengalese to crash the server. IMO, sending him back to Germany will be a very bad idea. He has the makings of an enforcer and those skills need to be nurtured. That's not going to happen in jump-shooting-Nowitzki-land. (Note: no references to goose-stepping or other historical generalizations) He should go to the Grecian League. (gotta love W) All I want him to be is Amare-kryptonite.

Do you know that he will be playing in this years version of Summer League eh? It is the freaking 44th pick for goodness' sake not #7 people. Perpectively speaking it a great pick. I don't need to see MALICK play to tell me that. Time will complete the rest of my point. Any bottleman, I say he will one day Malick WILL make it to the Rockets team as the 12th, 13th or 14th man someday.
I don't know who posted it, but I think jumping and running have a lot to do with coordination. Those two things done well tell me that the athlete has good foot work.
