You don't have to agree with the war. I don't agree with it. Many people don't agree with it. But as long as it doesn't hurt their interest, they couldn't care less about it. This has nothing to do with "cowardly Democrats".
This presidential election proves my point. Mcain wants to continue the war the most, still so many people support him. How do you explain that? I guess for these people, 4000 is just a number which is larger than 3000 and smaller than 5000, and means nothing more.

4000 dead troops and their families might disagree.

What an ass. God this administration can't end fast enough so idiots like Dick Cheney can disappear into oblivion.

This "no big deal" by Cheney comment really bothers me. Despite being a nation under war, civilians have not seen its effects up front. The economy even grew during this time span. We've been relatively unscathed from sacrifices other war time nations have historically demanded. There are no resource shortages. If there were, China would be largely to blame. There are no drafts. There are no physical signs of mobilization on the homeland. Companies haven't been nationalized to make guns, planes and tanks. A man who recently left a cave would have no idea we're at war by looking at the surface. The Iraqi occupation has become a highly distorted and abstract concept by both the public and government circles. The military has bore the realities of the situation up front because they have lost the most.

I'm grateful every day because of the removal of Donald Rumsfeld and having leaders like Petreaus who have a grasp of the ground situation. On the other hand, the change in improvement can't be assumed as permanent because it allows the public to loosen their scrutiny of this war. This war has already exceeded WW2 in length, and it's cost us trillions in treasure. The total blood is immeasurable, and its side consequences in the wounded, hundreds of thousands of displaced Iraqis, millions more with emnity against Americans and their ethnically different neighbors will rock American foreign policy for decades to come.

And it's no big deal? If Cheney was a man of foresight, the I could give him some benefit to a misspoken, though idiotic, comment. But his lack of foresight and his cronies are why we're in this situation now. It pisses me off that Democrats have done nothing about this bull****. Approval ratings for congress are low because of this reason.

according the bigtexxx: "the war is over"

i still find the ignorance unbelievable.

4000 dead in Afghanistan or Pakistan would be a different story......but Sadaam was the man behind 9/11

afghanistan and pakistan get the free pass. there are/were members of the government supported the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Hell, Pakistan has been accused of even harboring bin ladin in the past....but for some reason Iraq was the number 1 priority. Sadaam mudering his own people is bad, but not as bad as bin ladin sending his people over here to murder our people. But I forgot....Sadaam and Bin Ladin who had almost opposite views and probably depised each other were best friends...

More people have died cause sadam wasn't there then that would have died if he was still there. Anyways I think the US gov't job was to serve the american people. Spending trillions of dollars in Iraq ain't that.

Exaggerated rubbish and you know it.

Please show me how many people Saddam reportedly killed and then calculate a per month basis, and tell me how that compares to the number of Iraqis who have died per month in this war.

Why exactly? Do you place more value on some lives than others?
