It's pretty easy to spend upwards of $300 on dinner for 2 if you're going to a nice place and have a bottle of good wine. I've done it before at places like Vic & Anthony's and Mark's.

The alcohol portion of the tab can swing things in a major way. I know I've had meals where my portion of the tab topped $150 a couple of times.

I'm glad you are willing to contribute to our economy in this fashion. We appreciate you.

That being said, I'd wager that a good wine expert could trick you into thinking a $15 bottle of wine is a $150 bottle of wine - especially after your first drink.

I agree with the other guy. In the world of luxury items, the law of diminishing returns is virtually ironclad.

Why is that bottle of wine that expensive? Some wine snob gave it a good review and it's rare. Most people will pay the price to show off and because they can convince themselves it's worth it.

My parents were wait listed at FL this summer and actually got the call that a reservation opened up and they passed. I couldn't believe it.

I just came back from NYC where we had standing reservations at Daniel but ultimately passed. Dying to go but none of us could really justify the $200+ per person tab... Ended up at one of Boulud's other spots DBGB in the east village which was much more reasonable and pretty good overall.

The amount of detail to each dish, the flavor of each bite, you feel like your taste buds are having an orgasm.. As strange as it sounds, after eating at Daniel's $200 seemed like a bargain!

I'm going to Fogo de Chao for the first time next week. It's not as costly as some of these posts, but I'm looking at $35 for lunch.

    Any tips about this place?

Pace yourself. Small slices in the beginning if you're feeling your way for favorite selections. The bread and fried banana is awesome, so eat it last or take a bite in between.

Absolutely love their Filet Mignon and the lamb. Chicken (even the bacon wrapped kind) is dry and meh.

Salad bar very nice. Can use some of their fancier offerings as an opportunity to cut through the grease in between meats.

Man....a 20 dollar entree can be very nice. It should be about the quality of the restaurant and the people rather than the price.

So next time she makes you a sammich on your b-day, give her extra grief for not adding more bacon on your special day...

Fancy french restaurants will kill you every time. I once ended up paying around $1,600.00 for 2 at Robuchon in Tokyo. Meal wasnt bad but I went for a $10 steak at some cheapo place afterwards. not fulfilling at all and water and wine were ridiculously overpriced.

I've spent over a $100 at a few places for my wife and I. Those have been some of the best meals we've ever eaten.

instead of payign for ridiculously overpriced dinner and wine, donate some of that coin to me. With $400, I can eat for a month.
