I agree with this. I was thinking about wanting to see the young guys mixed in while watching last night but then I refocused and thought about how great our rotation guys are playing together. There really is something special here that has not existed on a Rockets team in ten or more years. JVG needs to keep cultivating that. Also, I am sure, the early season collapses are still in his mind. If you mess with the roatation and chemistry is lost then mentally things can change. Since this is a playoff team, the playoff rotation is the only thing that really matters right now. The young guys have proven that they are all "wait until next year" players. This summer will make or break them, really. All I really care about now is the playoff rotation: Yao Ming Howard Battier McGrady Alston Head Bonzi Hayes Deke maybe Snyder That is a 9-10 man rotation and all that is needed or wanted for the playoffs. This team is incredible.
He was trying to cram 20 minutes of play into 5 minutes. Yes, they were his fault. But how crisp is he supposed to be with his playing time the way it is? I suppose if he just stood in the corner and passed over those 2 wide open jumpers and not been aggressive and tried to make something happen on the break where he fumbled away the ball and the pick and roll play with Chuckie where the pass was just slightly behind Chuckie, that he could have put up a bunch of zeros and we would be saying that he was improving. When in all reality that would be a serious regression of his game. VSpan is an aggressive player. He makes plays. He has to be given the opportunity to work out the kinks, learn the league, and learn what he can and cannot do in this league. By the way, I haven't seen one thing about this. But Rafer has 6, count 'em 6 turnovers last night and a couple of them were horrible, throwing the ball way out of bounds on a full court pass, etc. But it's the overall play that sticks out, and really the fact that he was hitting shots. He went 5/10 and 2/7. Take away one 3 point shot and one of those layups he got lucky on and all of a sudden he is 3/10 and 1/7 with 6 turnovers. And the BBS is lit up with how horrible he is. But, he got 30 minutes. If you take Rafer's stats the first 5 minutes of the game, I think he was 0/3 with 2 turnovers, maybe 3 turnovers. But then he got it together a little bit and hit some shots. And that was while playing alongside McGrady, Deke, and Battier. Throw Rafer out there with Novak JLIII, Hayes at the 5, and Padgett and see what he looks like.
and giving AI a second chance to beat us didn't help either. We are not too many games away from that poor effort against Denver. It was like a downer from the Suns/Mavs games where they played their hearts out. The Denver game seems to be what JVG is talking about wrt intensity being fragile. did you read that quore of last week from JVG...or I mean TMac. He said he thought he had two great practices in a row, but JVG told him he was not as good in the second practice, not enough intensity. We he plays with energy the whole team. And he asked TMac if he could feet it. He wanted to know if TMac could tell the difference. cool...rimbaud is excited. I don't think I've seen you excited like this before. I wonder if CriscoKidd is getting excited.
no, he wouldn't... Vspan wouldn't jack it up 7 times in 12 minutes, Vspan wouldn't get 3 fouls in 30 seconds (maybe 3 fouls in the whole quarter ). but Vspan would've had about 7 assists..... and 5 TOs in a quarter.. all I know is, Vspan sux, and JL3 really sux. but if I had to choose between the two, I'd take Span's 25 TOs over all the shots Lucas jacks up! I am not trying to argue that Vspan is great, he isn't. he is a scrub. but he passes the damn ball and he doesn't dribble the air outta the ball just for the hell of it. Lucas gets on my nerves, this midget is so freakin annoying! I dont want to see him in trash time! I really dotn want to see a 5'10 midget jack up 7 ill advised shots and brick all but one (in the last minute), I dont want to see a midget dribbling the ball for 22 seconds then shooting an off balance 3 pointer! it's not like it would make any difference, we obviously have a huge lead and the other team wont come back, we secured the win, but it's not freakin' entertaining! it's actually boring as hell. I usually enjoy watching trash time because u usually see a group of young people getting the chance to show everybody what they can do and play as hard as they can to attract attention. I like the fact that those young fellas dive on the ground for loose balls and hustle and stuff. even if the quality is low, the effort is still very high. but that's not the case for Mr. Midget. he loves to jack up ill advised shots and he doesn't pass the freakin ball at all (well, he does when he is trapped in the backcourt and doesn't konw what to do). I'd rather see Padgett running the PG than Lucas... I know b!tching about a player who messed up a little in trash time is very silly and is considered r****ded, but I just want to get this off my chest. I want Lucas to be waived or traded or whatever! we could've kept Azubuike instead of him! we could've kept Rybo! at least Rybo can participate with the cheerleaders to get the crowds pumped up . but Lucas definately needs to go...
Judging from his performance last night, anything involving touching the ball or playing defense is something he is not good at right now.
I was behind the basket at the game. V-Span drove to the basket at one point and could have had an easy layup. Instead, he passed the ball out to the three point line. It made no sense.

That's his game -- driving and dishing. I don't know why JVG wants him to be a 3-point ace. That is NOT his game. sounds as if this is asking yao to take 3's. if you are wide open in the nba, and you are a GUARD, shooting OR point, you shoot with the expectation to make it. If it isn't in a guard's game to be able to hit wide open 3's, then he has absolutely NO BUSINESS in the NBA
Sure, that is the really good thing about JVG's attention to detail. Combine that with the fact that EVERY one of the "important" players has bought into his philosophy. The 04-05 team bought in as well they just were old and more physically limited. That is why this team is special. We are killing and not even at 100%. I don't want to see it but it would be interesting to compare a TMac and Yao Ming - less Rockets now play against good and average teams. I feel it would be more like the Pheonix game and less like right after Yao Ming went down. In that case you have a very limited team still playing inspired ball. I am excited (not sure if that is a rare experience) because those kinds of teams can do anything come playoff time. If Yao Ming can come back, round into shape, and not disrupt the team at all (he should be the last player to do that on any team) this team honestly could win it all. I was not fully expecting that this year.
Sure. Why not have a coach who just settles instead of one that pushes for perfection game in and game out. Coaches like Riley, Jackson, Parcells, Belechick, Popovich, got to where they are by just saying "Hey, we pretty good. Lets leave it at that and call it a day."
