https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/09/politics/marines-coronavirus-vaccines/index.html Just make it mandatory, FFS. The military has never been known for getting the best and the brightest. DD
For sure. Other vaccinations are mandatory for the troops. Are conservos going to squawk about how it leads to more VA healthcare costs i.e taxes and leads to The Home Land being less able to defend against an attack from Venezuela?
This should be mandatory. When I joined the Navy they didn't ask me which vaccines I wanted and didn't want.
I agree. I had mandatory vaccines every year in the Navy, and with the risk of Covid spread, I'm surprised by this actually. A spread on a ship, or on a base, facility, or squadron could could significantly affect manning requirements needed to function.
I think it's because they aren't FDA approved yet Honestly, considering the demographics of the marines (young people, lean conservative) I'd say 60% vaccination is really good.
Crazy viking QAnon Shaman was kicked out of his glorious supply clerk job in the Navy for refusing an Anthrax vaccine. Also, they pumped the Army full of all sorts of experimental unapproved chemical weapons treatments durring the First Gulf War and there was no option to refuse.
If the vaccines are approved by the FDA and it’s a requirement for serving as a Marine, and it should be, of course it should be mandatory. If a Marine refuses, tell him or her that they can no longer be a Marine.
The vaccines aren't FDA approved, though. They only have emergency-use authorization right now - basically, a distinction that says "we can't guarantee anything, but it's an emergency so we recommend using it". I don't know if you can really make that mandatory if the FDA hasn't proven conclusively said it's safe.
These people swore an oath to protect this country. How do you do that? By getting this vaccine so you are far less likely to incubate a deadly variant and pass it on to another person. Republicans have destroyed true patriotism in this country.
It's not only the maga bubba crowd. There's still distrust among minorities against Government authorities or medical authorities testing on unsuspecting groups. We still have surviving generations from those events. I'm not sure where I stand on this since I've been a big supporter of our military personnel not blindly following orders they're given. It's still a choice at this point but I'm not going to pretend how their buddies who do get the shots react. I don't like this from a public health standpoint but they can lockdown their own far better than locking down and tracking civilians....
