Ottomaton: "I think this would safely describe how I feel about Hagee and the people who try to defend him, as well." Is it just my imagination or was I a target there... since you keep characterizing me as a Hagee "defender"? So you are in essence directly calling me pathetic. Now that is the real stuff out of which apologies are born! While waiting for mine, just hold your breath!!
I have no problem characterizing your defense of Hagee as pathetic. I'd go much farther in fact. This is way, way worse than your defense of Nugent. At least he didn't have a ministry of misguided people he was leading down a path of hate. At least he didn't pretend to be a man of God. I've always thought you were more misguided than anything worse. But your steady defense of powerful bigots is really troubling. And you won't ever get an apology from me on any of that. In fact, I think you owe one to the people whose lives were lost or completely turned upside down by the worst natural disaster to hit this country in our lifetimes for backing someone who says they had it coming. You have spent the last two days defending a man who uses God to tell those people they got what they deserved. That is truly incredible. I think it might even be unprecedented on this board. It's way worse than pathetic. I'm being very generous when I give you the benefit of the doubt and assume its ignorance and not something far worse that leads you to steadily defend these evil creeps.
It's not unprecedented. You must have a short memory -- do you not remember the libs vigorously defending Obama's pastor and spiritual mentor, Jeremiah Wright? no cred...
I don't defend Hagee; I defend his right to his belief since he is not out there killing people or inciting others to kill. Isn't that what America is about? Just in this thread I have ridiculed Hagee's worldview numerous times... which directly flies in the face of what you and otto are desperately trying to make stick. It's you two that keep bringing the conversation back to Hagee and then you want to criticize me because I keep "defending" Hagee. I don't identify with Hagee's position, but he has a right to it. Then of course there is the dismissal of a thread dedicated to a most dangerous cleric in the world that no one "here" has ever heard of... isn't that a public service? You are like a pack of dogs. Woof!
Could you please list the post numbers from this thread or provide quote where you "ridiculed Hagee's worldview numerous times"?
#17 I implied the wackiness of Hagee's Katrina Theory since that storm surge surely decimated Christian churches as well as bordellos #33 I called him a fat man with a peculiar worldview #40 I describe myself as "no fan of Hagee" (admittedly mild) #49 I referred to him as a wacky theologian #64 I referred to his pathetic worldview #73 I made a cynical reference to his "fat little head" Surely you did not fail to detect every one of those as your challenge seems to be under-girded by an expectation of my finding nothing....
Your definition of "ridicule" is... well… ridiculous. It is more like an apologia, sort of "See, he's just a fat silly man. When he says he wants **** and muslims to die, he is just so fat and silly that he can't really mean it."
Yes! I believe. That. US Americans. Don't out there killing people and such as inciting others to kill. To better prepare our future.
Somehow I knew you wouldn't be satisfied... but that's now what I said at all. I dismissed Hagee's viewpoint summarily while trying to reserve his right to an opinion-- no matter how misguided I may take it. Obviously the PC police have a different approach...
Shouldn't the same apply to al-Nafisi? I mean, I could have missed the point in the video where he murdered someone, or ordered someone in the audience to get up and bomb the whitehouse with anthrax. Rather he said the people who do these things are close to god. Sort of like hurricanes are the expression of god's wrath against homosexuals. Like Hagee, he expressed aproval for the act in the abstract. Like Hagee he sugested using WMD's on another country would be God's will. Like Hagee, he said it is against one's religion to compromise (or do anything short of fight) with those of a specific group of "unaproved" religions.
I've got a bad feeling that one day I might get lumped in with all the 'Hagees' of the world. I really don't know this Hagee but I have heard about him and I have never heard anything good about him. I don't know any radical muslims. I don't really know about that either. This all sounds very bad to me. Evil men are evil men, you know them by their fruits
I invited Batman to start a Hagee thread; he declined. So you think Hagee can control hurricanes on a par wit al-Nafisi's abiity to incite radical followers?
I think Hagee can incite bigots to hate on a par with al-Nafisi. Can you show me the terrorist attacks that are directly attributable to al-Nafisi?
Yes. I have a folder 8-pages thick but it is classified. I'll release it when his head is on a pole in my yard. Sorry that this had to happen to you during the Rocket off-season. Are you not only a member but also the president of the al-Nafisi fan club?
Awesome. Want to ask me why I hate America while your at it? That hasn't been asked of me by your ilk in a while. As already stated, I think of him exactly as I think of Hagee. He is racist bigot hiding behind God to incite people to hatred. And both are fringe idiots that no sane healthy person would give the time of day to. They've always existed, and as you pointed out, in the USA we've made a commitment to letting them continue to be racist bigots and not kill them because we don't like what they say.
Same? Do you mean similar or equal or what? They are different and I've indicated several ways while you seem intent on minimizing those differences with binoculars held backwards for what purpose I'm not sure....
From what little I've seen of both Hagee and Al-Nasafi they don't appear that different. Both are calling for all out war to be won at any costs. [rquoter]Hagee "“Ladies and gentlemen, America is at war with radical Islam,” Hagee said. “Jihad has come to America. If we lose the war to Islamic fascism, it will change the world as we know it.” “We as a nation are at war with a determined enemy. It is time for America to realize that we must win this war at all costs.” [/rquoter] Hagee doesn't spell out exactly the means as Al-Nasafi but from that quote there seems little doubt that he would approve of even barbaric methods for his cause.
