ok i need you guys to imagine how much better the rockets would be if yao was healthy and playing this season..him being on the floor would have made everyone else better..defensively and offensively..when u build a team around a center that is just coming back from a season ending injury the year before and again does not play..obviously your team is going to suck...that's what ur getting this season..the only problem we have is the center position not anywhere else...
We need to start winning or just unload everyone and go belly up. Mind you, I like who we have and don't want to totally rebuild. I just can't bear another season of these repitious threads on Clutchfans.
5 players can't create at one time. Battier holds his own offensively because he can shoot the 3. Even if he doesn't shoot, he spaces the floor because of his shooting. That is all anyone can ask for in a role player.
I am not going to have a link or anything, but I just heard on either sports radio 610 or one of the other stations, that the Rockets starting 5 is actually the 4th ranked team in the NBA in point differential. They said it was the bench where the Rockets keep losing games.
Let's examine your thread a little closer. Hayes FG% - 57.9% (highest on the team) Battier 3pt FG% - 37.6% (4th highest on the team) Scola = PF.....how many PF's do you want shooting 3's anyways? Martin 3pt % - 40.6% (highest on the team)
Wow now i'm really impressed with the spurs, they won three title playing 4 on 5 with bruce bowen. Come to think of it, the lakers won three titles playing 4 on 5 with rick fox, 3 on 5 if you count fisher Damn the heat we're playing 4 on 5 with posey. How ever did they do it? You win titles with a few great players and role players who play defense No team has ever won with 5 chuckers, there's only one basketball. Fans play fantasy basketball and assume if you accumulate 20 pt scorers you'll win a title.
guy cant dribble... cant recreate offense at all.. im still in for a trade.. we need an upgrade on sf and c!
maybe you are, but i'm not usually greatly shocked when a 58% shooter makes a shot. he is much better on offense this year and the numbers prove it. i used to, but he's been generally making shots, at least relative to the rest of his career, for a couple of months now. he's a 38.4% 3 point shooter. that's pretty good. pretty much a perfect spot up shooter role player percentage. how often do any power forwards make a 3? well right now, he's 2nd in scoring per minute and one of the best in true shooting percentage so it would appear he's on quite a bit and off not quite a bit. our starting lineup is the only reason we're as good as we are. if we somehow get a closer and defensive big men, not only would that solve two huge problems, but it would knock a couple of anchors out of the rotation and we wouldn't even need that closer as often as we do because we'd be ahead so much more often.
Assembling a team of 25ppg players doesn't mean that youre going to score 125 a night. Battier is a stopper and 3 point threat off a double team or pick. He's doing just fine. We need an inside presence on both ends of the court to change shots on the defensive end and to draw doubles on offense.
I still contend that most Rocket's fans are overrating the starting five. We are no match talent wise for most teams in the league. I actually think they are playing very, very hard and over achieving.
There is some over rating, some under rating every day based on if we won or lost the last game. Obviously a starting 5 with zero all star/superstar players isn't going to be the best starting line up you could possibly have in the league. But there is evidence to suggest it is the best starting line up the Rockets can use given the players on the roster right now.
This right here. Houston is 4th in the league in scoring! In the NBA no 'four man team' is going to accomplish that. It is not even about his defense compensating for his offense. When will some of you realize that a player does not have to score to contribute to scoring.
Not including Saturday's game, the unit of Lowry-Martin-Battier-Scola-Hayes (the so-called "4 on 5" unit) had an offensive efficiency of 117, while the team as a whole had an offensive efficiency of 109. That unit is +9 per 100 possessions for the season, and it is also one of the most frequently used units in the league (4th most in minutes played). Does anyone care to know how this unit rates against the league's top 10 teams? Edit: I guess no one cares, but I was interested so I looked it up. I'll take the top 10 teams to be the top ranked teams by SRS from basketball-reference. Here's what our starting unit has done against them: Tm obs min off-poss ORTG def-poss DRTG +/- MIA 5 16.73 34 124 34 118 +2 SAS 9 19.75 40 110 41 110 -1 LAL 7 39.27 74 116 75 107 +6 BOS 0 0 0 - 0 - +0 CHI 7 25.7 54 115 52 102 +9 ORL 2 9.92 17 141 17 135 +1 DAL 8 32.17 63 116 61 126 -4 DEN 6 14.97 33 127 31 116 +6 NOH 10 36.16 67 115 65 106 +8 OKC 11 42.05 77 127 78 132 -5 Its not a big sample of minutes, but still they've done surprisingly well. For a full breakdown of the starting unit's matchups see here. Here's a plot for every matchup our starting unit faced this season, weighted by #observations per given matchup. Y-axis is our aggregate +/- versus each opposing unit faced, and X-axis is the opposing unit's +/- for the season adjusted to #possessions our starting unit has played against them. The result surprised me: Even against the good opposing units, our starting group has done well in general. And, again, this is reflected in the numbers shown in the table above.
In how many minuets did he hit his 3s? It wasnt over the whole span of the game. He only took two shots the first half had 0 points. Shane can score can know down the big three, but he is a role player. He should play 7-15 min a game depending on if we need him. If we want to win, we have to take advantage of these young players we have so many of. Chuck is the Man
I understand, and I appreciate your research (impressive), BUT, honestly, how many teams in the league start Lowry, Hayes, and Battier. I think, not many, if any. Several don't even start Martin or Scola. I think our group works hard, gives their best most nights. In many ways, I admire their efforts. Bottomline, this version of the Rockets are out maned, out gunned, and typically outplayed. That is why their record is 25-30. And that is the only statistic that counts.
Yeah i'm sitting here watching Von Wafer play great off the bench for the Boston Celtics and it makes me sick! Everytime we get players like this we let them go for some BS reason. Chase Budinger, Courtney Lee, Shane Battier these guys ain't **** compared to what Wafer gave us. Artest, Landry and Mutombo all the toughness gone for good behavior/good statistical BS players.
