We have so many suspect shooters already. Jalen Green and Amen Thompson are way below average 3 point shooters for their position on offense. Whitmore is still up in the air. Jabari Smith might be a decent shooter at the 4, but probably not the lights out shooter we were hoping he could be. Sengun can't shoot 3's, Dillon Brooks is adequate but limited from the outside. Reed Sheppard fills a clear need, so unless there's a player clearly better overall, I think he's out best choice. A Kirk Hinrich/Steph Curry style player fits very well in the modern NBA.
I don't think there aren't many teams with the "luxury" to do that with their current starting backcourt. Which makes Sheppard harder to fit on a bunch of other lottery team.
I know we all know Ime focuses on defense. But remember, in his very first interview after signing with the Rockets, he said "shooting comes at a premium". My dream would be to sign Sheppard, extend Steven Adams and see how it goes.
If he is a Mark Price Lite, I would be ecstatic...Plus Price was ahead of his time and would be better in this era anyway
If the Rockets keep their pick at three, I still think they should go for upside. I would check out: Zaccharie Risacher Matas Buzelis Cody Williams
We don’t want to trade the pick we want to build from the daft a team that will be good to go for a while.
I've been worried about the fit of Amen and Sengun, and taking Sheppard would go a long way towards fixing my concerns. I can see a lineup of Green / Sheppard / Amen / Smith / Sengun working well together.
The Rockets best prospects in order are: 1A/1B : Amen/Sengun 2: Cam Whitmore 3: Jabari Smith Who fits best with those guys?
stephon castle seems to be the safest pick according to mock drafts. Reed and Clingan are later picks
I want nothing to do with Sheppard. >50% from 3 sounds amazing until you realize it was only on 4.4 attempts per game. Stephen Curry during his freshman year at Davidson averaged 8.8 3PA. Closer to Derrick Williams (1.9 3PA) than Curry. If you're going to select an undersized guard with a very poor wingspan by NBA standards who's a question mark on defense and athleticism at best, I'd expect at least Trae Young levels of volume (10.3 3PA).
