Yes, I think Sarr is already functional as a defender, lob threat kind of guy. He should be able to at least play backup center minutes day one. Maybe he is not as polished as Clingan defensively but his mobility and overall athleticism makes up for a lot of that.
He’s a very good scout that was on the No Ceiling team and went on to do his own gig. He also went on the podcast with Dubose talking about Rockets options. Smart and eloquent scout imo. Also, it’s ok that others are high on players you don’t like
https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/...-hawks-with-top-pick-alex-sarr-falls-to-no-2/ 1. Hawks: Risacher (“There's some growing speculation that the Hawks could be trending away from Sarr with Risacher, Clingan and Sheppard being among the players they are reportedly interested in.”) 2. Wizards: Sarr (“I don't expect Sarr will get out of the top two. He's probably the only player in the draft that we can say that with some confidence at this point, even if he is losing momentum in Atlanta.”) 3. Rockets: Sheppard (“The Rockets have been said to like Sheppard and it's not hard to understand why. He could provide an understudy for Fred VanVleet and be penciled in to take over for him a couple of years down the road, while giving Jalen Green a backcourt partner. Houston is flush with young wings and Clingan will reportedly not work out for them, so unless they deal the pick, Sheppard would seem to fit.”) 4. Spurs: Castle (“Risacher, Sheppard and Castle are the players that San Antonio is believed to be most interested in if they stay at No. 4.”) 5. Pistons: Buzelis 6. Hornets: Knecht 7. Blazers: Clingan (“Clingan is in the mix at both No. 1 and No. 2, but if he gets past Washington, there's the potential for a fall.”) 8. Spurs: Salaun 9. Grizzlies: Holland (“The Grizzlies love Clingan are trying to move up to get him. If they can't move up, they'll explore moving down, with Yves Missi, Zach Edey and Kel'el Ware all being reported possibilities. If they stay here, Holland makes sense.”) 10. Jazz: C.Williams 11. Bulls: D.Carter 12. Thunder: Topic 13. Kings: Dillingham 14. Blazers: J.McCain
I love Sheppard but if Sarr falls to us we should take him. His ceiling as a player would be an amazing fit for this team. Absolutely worth the risk imo.
What if the Rockets are high on someone like Dalton Knecht but can't find a trade down? Do they take him at 3?
My gut feeling is no, but it can't be ruled out. If his defense was solid, he would be much higher on the list.
Makes more sense than most of them I've seen, although there's no way I'm taking Buzelis if I'm Detroit
What have I missed? Just a couple of days ago it was reported that Clingan would be working out for us... Has there been some new development?
My preferred Rox Board now: Sarr Sheppard Clingan (in a vacuum still a solid prospect) Buzelis Risacher Williams Castle Carter Salaun
1. Sarr. But no realistic chance of the Rockets getting him. 2. Clingan. Potential to be elite defensively. Needs a lot of work on the offensive side. 3. Sheppard/Castle/Risacher. I'd be fine with any of these guys.
He'd have a chance to be a starter here. All he needs to do is beat out Sengun. I don't want anyone who needs a spot guaranteed.
